I'm really liking the sound demos of that Kustom 300W head. If I get it with 610 cabinet should that be enough? Well, apparently the one I'm looking at is a solid state, just with a tube preamp. I don't really know how much of a difference that makes in terms of volume.

It's definitely good that you're getting books for this, but if it's the first instrument you're learning to play I'd recommend getting a real teacher; if you misunderstand the basics and have nobody to correct you then things will be much more difficult. Personally I'm self-teaching bass...

I bought the Ibanez GSR206 a few weeks ago and I've had no problems with it at all so far... It's actually a lot better than I expected! Sounds great and easy enough to play :bassist:

I need a case for my GSR206, but I don't know what to get. The closest thing to a GSR case I've found is this: Invalid Link Removed but it only says it's for SR basses and not GSR. Also, will the wider neck on a 6-string mean I'll have to get a different case too? What cases do you suggest?

I didn't realise the 206 only had 22 frets :/ I assumed all the SR and GSR (Aren't they the same thing?) had 24. Still, it doesn't matter too much, though I like the idea of a full 2 octaves as well... I'm having the same problem finding SR256's as I did with the 506 - Nobody in England seems to...

Thanks for the detailed response! I think you've confirmed for me what most people were saying. I'm definitely getting a 6 string. I'm more into modern metal/rock and don't really have an interest for old school stuff, and as for slap... I don't get the appeal of it. I just don't like slap...
