    Re-evaluating my amplification situation

I'd be worried for your ears. Just because the perceived loudness is low doesn't mean your amp is making less noise. Why was it so much harder to hear yourself? Were the rest of the band turning themselves up and up in a vicious spiral or was it because the FOH was so loud your foldbacks were...

Prevent headphone line-out muting amp speakers (Vox Pathfinder 10B)

Make headphone jack non-muting? This was discussed already for this specific amp in the above link but I'm asking specifically regarding my amp. The main speaker is disabled almost the moment I start putting the jack into the line-out socket, so I'm unsure if it's a physical switch or the jack...

The Praise and Worship Band Bassists Club

Oh yes, maybe I should've made that clearer. Am I right to assume you guys are nearly all in the US? With your "small 500-people congregations" I assumed so :) I'm from North-East England; I play guitar in my church band and have for some years but have literally picked up a bass in 2017 and...

I think musicians definitely gravitate together if only because they find it harder not to be distracted by less good musicians! This whole idea of churches having professional musicians is just so foreign to me. I feel it's less common in the UK maybe because we don't have the same big...

The Praise and Worship Band Bassists Club

Not trolling. Someone stated as fact small churches don't have resources and this is not my experience. I'm involved in a church of about 200 which has three full bands on rotation (typical 4 piece). We also have a plant of about 20. Here is always one person leading on guitar or keys and...

Online chord library to jam over?

I just found a free app Band2Play on android which looks half decent compared to paid options.

The Praise and Worship Band Bassists Club

Not in my experience. And in my view if your congregation us that tiny (are we talking less than 50?) putting a full band together isn't perhaps the best idea anyway. That said if you're the only bassist this is a great opportunity to train someone up, maybe mentor a teenager. They may bless...

Can you use walking bass outside jazz?

yeah a worship band is a strange beast. You're kind of aiming not to be noticed in a way and it's about serving a particular goal not demonstrating how awesome your skills are. Singers stay in a limited vocal range, etc

wait, you play every week/every time you attend church?! That doesn't seem ideal. Not going to church because people will ask why you're not playing bass... Church is bigger than that. Or just tell them to stop asking!

Awkward evangelism to strangers quota for the week met! I'm just joshing you, that's a great and correct attitude for a worship musician.

Can you use walking bass outside jazz?

Fair point. The strict non-repeating part I can happily ignore. In fact I suppose repetitive basslines are a good thing in many cases in pop music.

Can you use walking bass outside jazz?

I mainly play 4-chord type songs in my church band, soft of soft rock I suppose (I'm a guitarist just getting into bass). I love the idea of walking bass as a style but wondered if it has a place playing contemporary popular music or would be weird?

Online chord library to jam over?

I've yet to find anything perfect and free but was recommended to try this: iReal Pro - Music Book and Play Along (costs about £15 in the UK) and it looks good. I was recommended to search the progression you want and see what comes up.

    Guitarist learning bass

Hi there, I just found this forum mentioned in passing by Paul Wolfe (How to Play Bass .com). I'd been looking for something like it for a while, is this THE online community for bass players as I hope? I've been playing guitar, mostly rhythm for some years and just started getting into bass...
