    Tweeter Hiss on Markbass CMD1020p

Im Late I know, just my fifty cents, also coming from experience with a Markbass Alain Caron combo which is basically an active speaker with a bass Pre and hissing plus some experience with building speakers with high efficiency drivers including compression drivers. Yes, horns don’t his, but...

Markbass CMD 121H or Alain Caron Combo 121 Lite

Nah, no experience. Just theory: Imagine you compare a say 800 watts amp driving a fitting passive Box (like the ninja 112). It still will drive and cozily warm the passive crossover and loose quite some power there. Now go to an active speaker (which the 121 lite actually is). It should - with...

Markbass ? Why the dislike ?

Fine for me - as we all hear different and have different taste and needs.

Markbass ? Why the dislike ?

Mhh I don't go with your judgement. I just bought an MB Combo and had specific needs to fulfill: - leightweight - power - warm tone but variable to get also some shiny highs - good deep end - A tweeter which sound is not hurting my ear For the weight: some combos or combinations just were off...

Markbass CMD 121H or Alain Caron Combo 121 Lite

I was reading about it. The combo seems to have more punch (max 1kW) but they went back to passive crossovers. And they added a midrange driver so it's a 3-way speaker now. Sad when you buy stuff and 2 weeks later it's "old". I'm happy anyway, the sound is cool - I mean warm which is cool...

Mhh regarding the hissing... Mine does. But just when your ear is on axis or close to that with the tweeter. As long as it stands on the floor it hisses to you knees, which usually don't complain.

Ah makes sense :) So as there's no pad button I pad it myself by turnin it down.

Volume wars finally hit a head at rehearsal last night

Sometimes it's the rig - unless you invest in a power soak, which would help a lot. The Boogies I used all had the same issue: Master Volume loudness jumps. In the area of 0-2 it's too soft to even hear it and it sounds also weak. Then, somewhere between 2 and 3 it makes a huuuge jump in volume...

12's?!! For Bass?!! Oh come now! Really?!!

If I do that with my home stereo I am down to 8", but 12 of them xD

Gain at 2 o'clock with a passive bass? I got some issue being able to set my gain max at 2 (alike #2) for no input clipping with my MM Stingray, and that's my bass with the lower output.

Markbass CMD 121H or Alain Caron Combo 121 Lite

Late answer - I know - but I tried out both intensively this week. Ended up with the AC combo in my pocket. Both are really good not hissing combos, but I am sensitive about highs. The AC has a supposedly hornless or minimum horn size compression driver and therefore has very fine never annoying...

Markbass 121 Lite Alain Caron combo as standalone cab

I guess it's much too late now and I seriously hope you didn't try it... The Alain Caron Combo has 2 Amps and an active crossover. Therefore the cab cable looks a bit weird and will be a 4 pole connector. If it would fit (dunno if they are protected by design) into a 2 connector socket your...

Volume wars finally hit a head at rehearsal last night

Nowadays I understand much more what it takes to get a good mix - and that helps a lot when youngest in a band. In the old time each of us had this "sounds way cool when you play alone" sound which does not help the band to achieve a good sound. Worst example was maybe me: Boogie 4x12 half 'n...

Volume wars finally hit a head at rehearsal last night

Tell Lemmy about a loudness war with guitarists ;) My guess he did not feel there was a war - simply couldn't hear anything but the bass (joking, i am sure he heard all) :D

12's?!! For Bass?!! Oh come now! Really?!!

Isn't it all about coloration in the mids the different sized speakers do? For some the 15" is just the thing they love, smaller size different breakup and stuff... Improve alsomthe punch in the face sound of an amped 810 - just OnSong want to carry it ;) I justnplay a small sized 12 long throw...
