    Best headphones?

I'm personally a Skullcandy fan boy and use them extensively, I highly recommend the Hesh2 and Aviator models for bass playing

Advice for first head/cab gigging rig

I would say I agree. Having a DI is always handy, but you can always supplement that later with a pedal if need be, really (sansamp, hartke vxl, mxr di+, the list goes on) But from my time in the circuit, I don't like depending too much on the house or the sound guy for the small shows, having...

    Carvin BX500 with 2x10's + 115 ?

If they're both 8ohm, you'll end up with a 4ohm load. This is probably what you want as near every bass amp head supports 4ohms, where as if you got two 4ohm cabinets, you would have a 2ohm load, and much fewer heads support that. I don't advise mixing. I mean, it's not the end of the world...

    GK Questions.

+1 I learned the hardway that a single 112 isn't enough to keep up with a loud band, two should do the trick however.

Great review, been debating a Carvin, thank you!

    Amp to 2 cabs question

Each cab will get an equal share of the wattage. In this case, you have two 4ohm cabs for a single 2ohm load, so you've got a total of 600watts, so each cab will get 300 watts - so you're safe I personally think you might be better off vertically stacking the cabinets, but some of the other TB...

Amp head and cabinet of different brands

I like the way my markbass head sounds with my markbass cabs, I love the way my markbass head sounds with my GK cab. I don't like my gk head with my gk cab, but I like it with my hartke cabs and love it with my SWR cabs, I go back and forth with my gk head and markbass cabs. Go for what you...

Sell my Ampeg head AND speaker? Or just one?

That is a good point, but if he has a 2x10 or a 1x12 he can always just supplement it with a second cab if he ever has to, so he'll have options rather than being obligated to lug around a 4x10. A single 1x12 or 2x10 doesn't cut it in my band either. Hell, a single 4X10 is pushed in my band...

Sell my Ampeg head AND speaker? Or just one?

I'd say it's easier to replace the cab for something more modestly sized. Maybe a 2x10 or a 1x12, there's plenty of light, affordable options and you could always just stack a second cab if you find yourself needing the extra power again

    My Carvin rig ...

Beware! The light weight with the incredible clarity and huge lows is hard to fight, it pays nice with a lot of heads too :) Edited for spelling.

    My Carvin rig ...

Right on, thanks for the info! How reliable would you say their heads are/what do they sound like? I've been in the market for a new head for my practice set up/back up, and for some reason my old 1001RB hasn't been giving me much satisfaction as of late (blasphemy I know)

    My Carvin rig ...

I've actually been curious about Carvin equipment, but what I'm reading it sounds like their gear is pretty heavy - I've been spoiled by markbass cabs and how amazingly light they are

12+15 / twelve inch speaker with fifteen inch speakers ?

I actually did try it just resently! I hooked up a GK 1001RB (model 1) to a GK Neo 112-II and an SWR workingman's 1x15. I used it in a small room (approx bedroom sized) in a 3 piece metal band (moderate volume for metal) and personally? I actually rather like it. I think the 15" gives plenty...

    Giving up on a brand?

Personally, I love Hartke's customer service, but I've presently found myself gigging with a Markbass rig. Still practice at home with a HyDrive though, just to support.
