Nathan East and his BB3000 (BB5000 Prototype)

I think they are usually referred to as "ladybug" headstock... not "beetle" :D My bad. :-) But it's a magic bass, according to Nathan himself. :-) It's showcased here. And with this magic bass, it's no wonder the Nathan East signature become what it is :-)

Nathan East and his BB3000 (BB5000 Prototype)

He absolutey didn't misspeak :-) It was a prototype based on an extended 24-fret BB3000. I think this appeared for a few months as the BB1300 bass (neck-through 4-string with 24 frets). It's shown in the video below, and the headstock clearly reads BB3000. But keep in mind, this is not a...

Here is what Physics says on the differences between Long Scale strings and Short Scale strings

Interesting :-) But where are these results from?

    Show off your yamaha bb1300

The BB1300 is a bit of a rare bird, it was only in production for about 12 months, and not many make it to sales channels! I have been going through the history of the Yamaha Broadbass/BB models, and as soon as I came to the BB1300, I knew that I would have to own it if it ever was to surface...

Calling all bass detectives: Mystery bass, logo says "R", anyone recognize this?

Hello! I know there are a lot of knowledgable and experience bass players out there, and maybe someone has seen this bass or a similar one before? My friend got it into his shop for a service, and did some work on it. The bass is a neckthrough 6-string, and is equipped with a Tobias bridge and...

    THICC BODIES!

Tom Clement can build you bass similar to the Fodera you mentioned in your post. He's built several heavily chambered and semi-acoustic basses. Harvey Citron builds such basses (for Steve Swallow, amongst others), and I'm sure there are other makers as well.

    Parker Fly Bass Appreciation Thread

Not really off-topic, as it's bass related :D I use it, and it's useful. I mean, if you're looking for a GK-compatible unit it's as good as anything else out there. Will track useful above low A-string, not so good below. So I've got mine tuned E-C. I have used a Roland GK-unit on several...

Sorry for a very late response! Been a bit hectic here the last few days! Yes, the Willcox Lightwave! I actually have the HexFX, and I agree, it has a bit of that piezo magic going on! It's a very different creature than the Fly bass, as mine has almost no contours whatsoever... but it works, so...

Sorry :-) But not!!!! :D Congratulations!!! Very interesting configuration and solution! That's definitely a great way to achieve the same versatility as the Fly bass. Thanks for sharing! I think a lot of people dismiss pieozs as "unusable" because they don't have the opportunity to eq it...

Haha yes, great band name! The bass is awesome. I've been wanting a Parker for decades and I don't regret finally getting it. I guess the icky regret would be not getting it earlier And sorry for inducing GAS... I agree... Sustainiac.... Would be cool to be able to use that.

I think (but don't know for a fact) that the design was done in a similar way to the original Fly guitar, with a very slim and fragile wooden main structure with an exo-skeleton covering the back of the body and the neck. Steve Swallow played one of the prototypes for many years, another ended...

Thanks a lot!! :-) Too bad you missed out on your friend's Parker! And twisted neck... ouch.... just had to double-check mine... no twist! I presume that's one of the failures the carbon exo-skeleton is supposed to prevent. So probably not bullet-proof, then?! I agree with you, the versatility...

hehe yes, it does.... Don't know why the white one never entered production. They came very close to launch it, but maybe the design was too expensive to build... the eventual Fly Bass that they released is a quite extensive departure from the guitars. Maybe they figured out the design was too...

haha yeah, I'm very fortunate in the respect that I like the bass! The body is built up from several layers of acoustic guitar grade sitka spruce, capped with quilted maple on both sides to harden it. The neck is a multi-laminated mahogany affair with an exo-skeleton... it's not a completely...

    Parker Fly Bass Appreciation Thread

:D Well, I will admit that the original Parker Fly guitar and the early prototypes that were made for the Parker Fly Bass looked better (or at least different). And I know the body shape is absolutely not for everybody. But to be honest, I like the shape and look of the bass as well. What...
