    Acoustic Bass guitars worth having

I searched for a while to find an acoustic bass that reached the volume I needed unplugged. I eventually landed on a Gold Tone Paul Beard Resonator Bass. It has a regular electric pickup on it, so it sounds pretty good plugged in with LaBella Flats as well. It's done the job for years - looks...

Cab with lots of different-sized speakers

Mesa Boogie 1516. Great cab I've been using for years in our rehearsal space. Way too heavy for me to want to ever transport it anywhere.

Do you mostly play passive or active basses?

Always passive for me. My only active bass was a Gibson RD Artist that I worked all summer to buy back in '80, then spent months borrowing basses as it sat in someone's service department with Moog issues. I ended up trading it for an Electra with a P p'up plus cash. Still have the Electra -...

I could get used to an 8.5 lb super faded pink Jazz Bass pretty quickly. Well done!

    Frank Itt ISN’T Dead

I was a rattled when I saw the topic. Love that guy! Maybe an edit to the subject line isn't a bad idea.

Anyone else clicks "add to cart" when they've had a couple of drinks?

You betcha! Around May of this year I walked into a GC after having brunch and a few mimosas with the Mrs. I was on a quest - "I need a Jazz Bass!"... "a Fiesta Red Vintera Jaaaaazz Baaass." "Don't have any? Whatdya got?" "Squier?.. okay." "Pro2?... nice but I dunno." "Lemme try this one."...

I struggle with mint sometimes but yours looks fantastic! It seems to have that "leached up from beneath" look that I love. I don't care for the mint that looks like "Institutional Green". It was a fine color for the walls at the YMCA where I grew up but not on a pick guard. I wouldn't mind...

Retiring from bass-Final gig report-FreakTrain Band @Humpbuckle Music Festival #40

The way I see it, 54 years being able to play bass = VICTORY. Well done, sir!

They do a good job of showcasing these things on YouTube. I've lusted after a few them, myself and have threatened to make the 4-ish hour drive to see Anthony. Congrats on your score! Those Empire P pickups sound really good to my ears and your natural roasted w/ tort combo... spectacular...

Like you, I believe there might be something on my sanded down CS Jazz neck but I wouldn't get too hung up on the particulars. If I was considering what you are regarding your AV P, I'd sand it down with an eventual fine grit and throw some linseed oil on it. Plenty folks leave 'em raw too.

    Cool Wooten Story

I don't practice, practice either, much like Victor. I just happen to not have the natural talent he does. I always get such a feeling of peace when I watch and listen to him speak about playing bass, from the very first time I'd ever heard of him decades ago, watching an instructional vid GC...

    NBD - Yes, I bought a JacksonBacker

The cap actually sucks what little ass it has right out of the thing so no cap was a positive. I don't want it to seem like I was in search of that "great RIC tone" in other basses. I was probably just searching for a great 2-pup bass sound and figured RIC was the standard by which all others...
