Inlays on bass fretboards? What's considered tasteful?

I'm a dot guy all the way on both basses and guitars. I especially don't like big blocks. Had an old Epiphone Riviera years ago with parallelograms. Kinda liked those just because they were unusual. The Isosceles trapezoids ( or whatever you wanna call 'em) on Les Pauls are OK too.

If you dabble with blues guitar….

The Stones were longtime Wolf fans. In 1965, they refused to appear on the TV show "Shindig" unless Wolf was also brought on. 18-year-old Billy Preston and Tele-master James Burton were members of the lineup who backed him on the show: The Stones instrumental "2120 South Michigan Avenue"...

If you dabble with blues guitar….

There's a long-circulating tale, apocryphal or not, that says Hubert was playing with a flat pick when Wolf first hired him but that, at some point, Wolf fired him and told him to go learn to pick with his bare fingers. When he had mastered the technique to Wolf's satisfaction, Wolf hired him...

If you dabble with blues guitar….

Jeff Beck was listening (take note @ about 1:47): . I became aware of Hubert in about 1966. Have always loved his raw, quirky phrasing: a perfect foil for Wolf's "force-of-Nature" vocals.

    Affirmation

I like "rediscovering" ones that I already own but haven't played in awhile.

How does a preamp affect a bass's tone?

I hate messing with batteries, so my pre-amp is on the pedal board. It's an older model which contains quite a bit of "tone-shaping"circuitry, so it adds a significant enlargement of my passive bass's available tone palette.

Am I paranoid or is this too good to be true?

Another thing I do when I see something I'd like to buy on CL outside of my local area is Google map the seller's address, switch to the "street view" mode and scope out his residence and the surrounding area, just to get a fairly current, visual read on the neighborhood. That's worked both...

    What’s you favorite ‘ergonomic’ bass?

I have arthritic thumbs. My parameters for qualifying as "ergonomic" are: •short scale •1.50"-wide at the nut •17mmm string spacing @ bridge saddles •well under 10 pounds Guild Starfire bass is ideal. Most Fender Mustangs are also good, though the string spacing @ the bridge saddles is...

Hollowbody players…what strings do you use?

I'll agree with you on the neck binding.

Hollowbody players…what strings do you use?

All my basses are shorties. I have rounds on one Mustang, but flats on everything else (another Mustang, a Reverend Dub King and assorted Guild Starfires), mostly D'Addario Chromes ECB81M (45-65-80-100). One Starfire has some other flats on it. They came on the bass, so I'm not sure what...
