Thank you James great, practical advice. Copying the original bass bar a good idea when making the new one? Cheers Dominic

Thanks for that tip, very concerned about delamination using too much steam when removing the bass bar. I have not seen enough aged laminate tops to know about a susceptibility to deform under tension? So maybe Stephen is right. Certainly in the classical guitar making world the struts on the...

No there is a talking point, some say you do, some say you don’t? However the bass I am working on is a solid spruce top. My question to James about the bass bar is for future bass in waiting for a conversion which is a laminate top. Do you have any thoughts if to spring or not? The bass bar...

Hi James, thanks for the encouraging comments. Well fitting bass bar is an art I am discovering. I have only fitted three so far. I have read a fair bit about doing it and on the one I have just done, I first practised with a cheap bit of spruce first before I used the AAA bass bar I bought...

Thank-you Wasnex, you have given me a new role model. I shall look up this guy. You are correct about potential issues in how to move onto a finer quality instrument. My aim is to become confident, accurate and successful in converting a right bass to left, as there are many important...

Wow you guys are giving me some inspiration, but I do agree in an Orchestra I would not be popular!

Spot on Steven. Some work to the finger board is required especially if it has a flat relief for the E & A strings. But in principle on the few basses (3 so far) I have worked on it’s pretty straight forward. Thanks for sharing. Dominic

Thank you Jeff and t bone for your responses, there is truth in what you both are saying. What is interesting some of the mass produced bass making companies do offer left handed bass (entry level models). I come from a luthier background and love the bass and enjoy the deconstruction and...

I appreciate what you are saying, as I used to play the tuba (right handed). I guess where I went wrong was I played the electric bass left handed. Years ago I did have a right handed double bass, but it just didn’t feel “right”. Yes, there is a great deal to do for a new bass bar to be...

New to the forum, reaching out to anyone who has converted a double bass to left handed, I am currently on my third bass conversion, just looking to find people who maybe doing the same thing. I appreciate a bit niche. Cheers Dominic (uk based)
