Hello, I'm having a beautiful old piece of cherry cut to make a new jazz bass body. What dimensions should it be? I want to book-match it so guess it needs to be double thickness and half width. Any suggestions?

Slightly off topic, here's side by side pics of the Japanese 62 (in gorgeous sonic blue) and the MIM 60's 'lacquer'. Both very well regarded and lovely. I think there are subtle differences everywhere, as far as I can tell the Japanese has a more accurate body shape - see the lower horn tip...

That's what I thought, although they do have 'heel-adjust' necks which are USA. MIM Fenders have 'headstock-adjust' as far as I know. Maybe there's a bit of crossover, allowing for the price drop. Seems pretty good to me, and seems like a comparable spec to MIJ/CIJ Examples.

Thanks, although I have heard people referring to MIJ as more desirable than CIJ - at least when it comes to reissues, it seems they are closer to the real things. I wondered whether the word crafted could imply assembled as opposed to made?

I'm interested in getting a better picture of where particular Fenders are made, where they're built (2 different things, no?) and the qualities thereof. In particular, what does American Special refer to? I believe that there's a Mexican connection there. Also; Made In... as opposed to Crafted...

Good call on the Tele mod idea, I'm not into them 'stock' but agree they could look really cool. I just hope there's some good wood under that thick white poly.

Not a chance, it's a budget bass and no mistake. It is quite pretty, very cool looking but mainly just cheap.
