Tricked Out Squier Club Part 3

Here's my present Squier "family". Nearly all of them have modifications. Not least of which is the fact that they are all strung with flats. The Mikey Way Mustang is sporting La Bella DT flats made for Mustangs (760F-MUS), and the Telecaster is strung with the then-new GHS Precision Flats made for 32" scale. The rest of them have Fender 9050CS flats. Nearly all have had CTS pot and Switchcraft plug replacements, some have new pickups, pickguards and even a Variometer or two.

Things I have yet to do: Install the early-style "ashtrays" on the CV Precision 50s, find a chrome pickup cover (or new chrome humbucker) for the MW Mustang, and some extensive work on the VM Telecaster. I'm hoping to strip the finish on the Tele, acquire a "T" bridge from Landing (which looks just like a Telecaster guitar bridge, with a diagonally slanted single coil pickup located within the bridge itself), and either do a vintage tinted clear coat over the wood, or have a true "Butterscotch Beige" color painted on the body.

Good call on the Tele mod idea, I'm not into them 'stock' but agree they could look really cool. I just hope there's some good wood under that thick white poly.

Yeah, I know what you mean, Nick. There's no way to know for sure what the wood will look like under the paint & poly, but I figured that stripping off white poly would be easier than black (which was my other stock Squier choice). BassHappy had his Squier VM Tele stripped down to wood, and the luthier doing the job said that the bass wood was a high-quality Asian elder. I guess that would look alright, if they didn't use more than a couple planks to make the body. BassHappy had a choice veneer top put on the face of his, and had a "burst" finish painted along the sides, which turned out really nice.

If I could get away with it, I may end up doing a vintage clear "burst" finish on the body. And if not, like I said up front, I can always just have to whole body shot in Butterscotch Beige, which will more or less match the vintage tint neck.

I'm not a real big fan of the "PJ" pickup configuration, but I DO like the Jaguar body style. If there was a natural-finish Jag, I'd probably have one in the "family". I'm kind of a natural-finish freak. My other bass "family" is made up of T-series Peaveys, nearly all of which have the natural finish as well.

Close. The volume and tone are a fairly standard setup like a p-bass but I have all the hots from the pickups going to the volume pot and the switches are for the grounds. I've read that switching off the grounds leads to no pops when switching. I used SPDT switches (on/on) because that's what I had lying around but no reason you couldn't just use SPST (on/off).

It's no line6man drawing but hopefully it gets the point across.

Ladies and gentlemen, I apologize for what is likely a repeat question. I'm planning on picking up a VM Jaguar Special in the near future, but I would like to replace the tuning machines with something lighter. To confirm, are there any drop in replacements that are going to save me some weight on the headstock? I was planning to pick up the Hipshot ultralights HB6 1/2" set, but I'm still not sure if those will be drop in replacements (aside from needing new screw holes). Will I need different bushings or anything like that? I have already written Hipshot, but I haven't heard back in over a week. Thanks for your input!

Stepping in the active bass world, EMG is not that frequent, very good choice indeed.

Although I fancy the Fender headstock, I admit this birdhead shape is gorgeous .

Is anyone looking to swap there Matt Freeman or Chris Aiken Neck for a CV J neck? straight swap neck/tuners for neck/tuners mine is near mint, just prefer a P neck.
