    guitar amp with bass speaker

I'd look into the Ampeg and Bassman bass amps. There are both new and vintage ones on the market.

    Soldering Iron Issues

I've never had an issue, usually have a big roll of 60/40, I think from Radio Shack.

    Soldering Iron Issues

I think a Weller WP35, is the equivalent to the old light bulb socket one that I use. It's about as basic as I would go.

    Recone Glue

Topping it off with an inert gas?

    Soldering Iron Issues

I think I still use one.

    Soldering Iron Issues

I like using the Weller with the threaded heating elements. I'm not sure if they still make them. I've always used 60/40. I didn't see anyone mention, you can use steel wool to clean your tip. You don't need to buy any specialty tool.

    Recone Glue

I thought acetone was a natural chemical in your body (a very, very, very small amount)? Never-the-less it's an effective product.

Need information for a cab - stage decoupling device

Have you considered liability issues? Specifically a tall cab/stack with a heavy amp toppling over? Even if it's pushed over, your insurance company needs to defend you in court.

    Recone Glue

I vaguely recall the last person I bought a kit from reminded me to use epoxy for the voicecoil to cone joint. I just really want to know what's in the generic white glue bottle.

Need information for a cab - stage decoupling device

I'm going to repeat this again, but probably word it differently than before. The only reason you will see a difference between coupled vs uncoupled has to do with the speaker cabinet design itself. Either the cabinet is not heavy enough to counter the moving mass of the speaker assembly (or...

    Recone Glue

What glue do you use for pro-sound cloth surrounds and spiders (spider to frame)? I've used the provided bottles of white glue before but I'm not sure what's in them...some kind of PVA glue. Is it's just a 1oz bottle of Elmer's? I'm tempted to try using Titebond II. I have a EVM 15L that's...

How many people actually set up their own instruments and get professional results?

Beside filing frets or fitting neck pockets the majority of the stuff is reversible. Bridge adjustments, and truss rod adjustments can be made indefinitely until the parts wear out, or you break something. You can shim a neck multiple times if you are careful with the screws. I'd like to pick...

Thoughts on gear with no Warranty?

Buy quality gear used, then you can make out on someone else's depreciation. I recently purchased my Peavey power amp from Music Go Round because it was dirt cheep and I knew it was a good model that would run for years to come. Even if it was broken, it would still be worth reselling for...

Pick Players: Your Preferred String Tension?

I really like my DR Highbeam 45-105 strings, but I can totally understand the arguments for higher tension strings. I've been using a 1.14 mm Dunlop Tortex pick. I think the .88's are too thin for my liking on bass. While a 1.5mm doesn't flex at all. I like having a trade off of just enough...

Ampeg V4 Overpowering Guitars in band, need advice

My thoughts: 1. have the tech pull two tubes and rebias and see what you think about playing 50 watts through a 100 watt tyranny. It may saturate quicker...or may just fart. Leads me to believe you need some more preamp gain... 2. The guitar players need to be louder or lean their amps back...
