    Live back or dead back?

My (un)educated guess as an engineer, while completely lacking any experience whatsoever with the double bass or lutherie in general, is that the sound post would be doing a lot of the heavy lifting when it comes to coupling the top to the back. You may also get sympathetic vibration in the back...

    Q the EQ

    Per google: C Note Frequencies by Octave C0: 16.35 Hz C1: 32.70 Hz C2: 65.41 Hz C3: 130.81 Hz C4 (Middle C): 261.63 Hz C5: 523.25 Hz C6: 1046.50 Hz C7: 2093.00 Hz C8: 4186.01 Hz I suppose it's as fine a way as any to choose frequency centers, but I don't see how it could possibly ensure...

Any Schecter P/J Owners Out there? (Monstertone Coil Tap)

Hmmmph... never seen that before... weird. I've got nothing further to add here.

Any Schecter P/J Owners Out there? (Monstertone Coil Tap)

Unless I'm misunderstanding something, you can't "coil split" a P pickup. Both halves of the P work together to make a complete circuit. You can wire the halves of it together in either Series (standard) or Parallel (very unusual), but there's nothing to "split" on a typical P pickup.

Dunlop flats compared to Rotosound Jazz flats in terms of tension

I also find the Dunlops to be plenty full and not thin IME. If anything I wish they had a little more top end and midrange clarity/crunch/cut. I might be leaning towards putting rounds or pressurewounds back on that bass, tbh.

Dunlop flats compared to Rotosound Jazz flats in terms of tension

This jives with my memory. I just didn't want to come off as being overly dramatic since it was admittedly 20-25 years ago for me, now. I bought them when I was 16 simply because Steve Harris. I recorded our band's first album with them, and then swore off flatwounds for about 15-20 years after...

Dunlop flats compared to Rotosound Jazz flats in terms of tension

I currently have Dunlop flats on my P bass. I think they sound good and, while I find them a little stiffer than most common roundwound strings, I'd say they are pretty comfortable to play. It's been a LONNNNNG time since I tried Roto flats, but from what I remember they also sounded great...

    Building Slowly

Nice thanks. I've only had to do that one time (so far), on a pickguard. I also used a dremel with a cutoff wheel for that, but I feel like it was purely by fluke that it ended up fitting, so I'm looking for a better way to do it next time.

    Building Slowly

Weird, I think I have honestly never looked at this thread before! skimming the last few pages, it looks like I've been missing out. Maybe I missed it, but I'm curious what you used to cut the slot and holes for the blade switch?

    Experimenting with Osmo Polyx-Oil Finish

How would Osmo compare to something like Watco Teak Oil, which is marketed as a finish that penetrates and cures inside the wood, rather than just building a film on top. I've used Watco Teak on a few projects around the house, but nothing that's really seen a lot of abuse.

    Broughton Audio Super Thread

I don't know if I'm overly sensitive to it, or if it's cuz I grew up with mom allergic to a lot of scented products or what... but I literally taste cologne and perfume smells when they're laid on too thick. Light scents are usually fine, but when it's too thick It's like a punch in the face...

Same. Send me pedals and I will "hold" them for you. I will also open them for inspection and testing to make sure they work and sound good.
