    Skyline 44-02 vs Stingray

I own a 44-02 and would trade it for a Sterling in a heartbeat. Takes too much effort to get a good sound out of it. Doesn't have that nice chunky growl or the MM either.

    Does this EBMM bass exist?

I've been playing a lot of Stingrays llately at the shops and decided what I want, I just don't know if it exists. I like the 2 band EQ and bridge with the built in mutes on the Classic Ray, but I prefer the unfinished necks and contoured bodies of the standard Rays. To top it off I'd prefer the...

Post Your '51-55 Precision or Tele-inspired bass

This is my build I did last year. B. Hefner ash body with tummy and arm contours. Did the finish myself, black Gotoh bridge, and Schaller tuners. Got a 72 P bBass pick guard from WD Music and cut it by hand with a dremel for the pickup. Finished it off with Squier VM neck. The last picture...

    A Message From Flea

Most of my family lives in Italy and they have no idea what the Super Bowl is. They call the game futbol Americano and it's seen as somewhat of a joke.

    A Message From Flea

I think it's lame. If you're going to play a gig, you should actually play it. But I also think the Super Bowl and football in general is lame, so what do I know? And to someone who called it a worldwide audience, nobody outside of the US even knows what a Super Bowl is.

FedEx shipping woes - is my bass OK in the cold?

I read this thread yesterday, and then earlier today I took delivery from FedEx a box of wine my fiance ordered. The wine had frozen and cracked one of the bottles leaking wine slush all over my hard wood floors, awesome. So I'm guessing those warehouses aren't heated.

70's Fender Jazz basses and how to save for an instrument you really want

I took many years off from TB, but back in the early 2000s I remember 70s era Fenders being the butt of many jokes. Absolutely nobody wanted one. I returned here a year ago and suddenly everyone wants one. Weird. What happened?

    Forecast 2014 acquisition

I'm thinking of selling my 44-02 which is a great bass but I just never bonded with and felt the groove with. I'll either pocket the cash for my wedding or buy an American Jazz or build one from Warmoth parts.

    Punk rock/Ska suggestions?

Split coil P pickups are noise cancelling. Really the only thing that will give you noise is a passive single coil. Though with good shielding even a single coil can be silent. I have a single coil P Bass that has almost no hum at all because I shielded it well. Personally I really like the...

    Fender Select face lift

I like the white better too. But if I had a bass like that, I'd take the guard off completely.

Advice on an inexpensive, but good fretless bass?

I recently picked up a used Squier VM Jazz fretless at GC witha hard case for $150. I think it's sweet. Look for a good deal.

Let's hear it: American Fender Dimension basses

My local GC hasn't gotten any yet that I've seen. Though they don't sell many basses, I see the same stuff in there for months.

    No truss rod?

If there is a pick guard then pull that off first, sometimes the truss rod is accessed under there. If not, remove the neck. Though if the bass is really cheap it may just not have one. You can still adjust the neck bow, but you'll have to do it with string tension, like by buying strings with...

Why is the bassist/singer such a rare thing?

That's kind of what I was getting at when I jokingly said anti-social weirdos. I think maybe the kind of personality that gravitates towards an instrument like the bass that plays more of a supporting role just isn't the kind of person who really wants to stand up in front of a crowd and be a...
