A Message From Flea

I don't think sacred means what whoever wrote this thinks it means. Same thing for 'never'. Not that I give a toot one way or another. I'm just glad my hometown team won the SB.

Dude who really cares....they got a once in a lifetime offer and they took it...on nfl's terms. The reason they didnt connect to a just for show wireless is because they wanted to be upfront about it not being live. They didnt want to be in the tabloids grouped with mili vanili. Give em a break, im sure the majority of us would of walked over broken glass barefoot to do that gig.

This thread is classic TalkBass.....

First, they didn't "fake" anything. They got up and danced around with their instruments to a track they recorded specifically for this event and made no attempt to convince anyone they were doing anything else.

Second, how many of you "I woulda done it live" rabble have actually had to make the choice to do it live or not in front of a world wide audience of millions? Ok, me neither but I did get some insight into the issue working the 2010 Olympic opening ceremonies. During rehearsal breaks out encouraging lung cancer I'd hang with violinist Ashley MacIsaac. He was given the choice of playing the show live or doing it to a track he'd recorded. Being a hard player who regularly breaks strings he chose to use a track because breaking a string would snuff his performance. This guy is a pretty serious player and having seen his explosive live show in a club it kinda surprised me at first. But after he explained why it made sense and I respect his decision.....and the performance did come off well.

Third, who really gives a flying ****? Don't waste yer money on a Badass......

ExcallenT !!!!:)

Now for a real freak show, youtube up Bob Dylan's Chrysler commercial!

I don't think Flea actually wrote this message.

I'd agree, the letter is not 100% original. Too sweetsie, just calming the hordes to keep the record and ticket sales happenin'. Doubt that his management would let anything real from their artist slip by without very careful editing at the very least. It's about $$$ children, bottom line. These guys make more money in an hour or so "allowing" make up to be applied backstage than many hard workers make in a year doing working class jobs. Sure, Flea is a smart guy, and smart enough in a way to never bite the hand which feeds him.

I think it's lame. If you're going to play a gig, you should actually play it. But I also think the Super Bowl and football in general is lame, so what do I know?

And to someone who called it a worldwide audience, nobody outside of the US even knows what a Super Bowl is.

I would think that if any of us had paid to see the show instead of watching it for free on broadcast TV, we'd have an argument. If we bought tickets and went to a RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS concert and saw a pre-recorded show with unplugged guitars, then we could all be angry. This was free-broadcast distraction entertainment during the break of a FOOTBALL GAME. What are we mad about?? Something tells me that if you REALLY wanted to see the Peppers actually play Give it Away, you could go to one of their gigs and it's probably on the setlist.

And I think it holds true even in the case that someone here was actually AT the Superb Owl, as I doubt you paid for your ticket BECAUSE the RHCP's were part of the halftime show.

since when is TV free?
