A Message From Flea

Wait, the superbowl half time show is... fake????

I would have never guessed! I'm pretty sure the game is fake too, but that's another thread...

They must have offered them a ton of money. And I find it hard to believe that they didnt think to plug in their wireless. Shows like that have 1000 people working on every little facet of everything. For someone to oversee that... i don't see how. It must have been deliberate, but why?

I respect RHCP and their talent...but I still don't approve of faking 3 minute performance because it's "safe" from a production perspective. It's not like RHCP need more publicity, but hey that's up to them, and it probably created more negative publicity than positive. This just an example of the those in charge (the NFL) putting production values ahead of the talent in terms of importance. Rediculous in my book, but the Super Bowl is big money and the people want a show...even it it's not totally authentic. Just not my cup of tea.

for the third time... super bowl half time artists don't get paid.

This is coming from a guy who hates RHCP but this is absolutely understandable and i dont see much wrong with this. I mean, its not like the haven't played their instrument EVERY OTHER SHOW OF THEIR LIVES. Its not like, oh they cant even really play... The SB is a spectacle. Its not a music festival. Its about having big famous bands with big famous songs. If you watched it for the musicianship or whatever, you watched it for the wrong reasons. Go see them live at one of their shows.

I remember getting pizza and watching some thing that had Madonna and another girl going up bleachers.

It really didn't work too well and she almost feel.

I believe the other girl lost some garmenting.

The SuperBowl isn't there for bass players. It designed for people who for the most part wouldn't know an EBMM from a Jazz Bass.

It's got to be smooth to keep the rubes entertained.

You just killed the buzz. I'm switching from bass to guitar.
How dare those millions of ignorant people forget about the bass player?

Actually, to be fair, if you look at the camera work on that show, they gave a lot of attention to Flea. That's how it was so clear he was unplugged - lots of footage to confirm. I barely even noticed the guitarist was there. That was a welcome change - I remember there's one Yes concert video (the Montreux one, I think) where you wouldn't even know Chris Squire was in the band.

'Faking' to your own specially prerecorded track for a special appearance of this kind to ensure no hiccups - fine. Even the vocals could have been prerecorded imho. I'd take that job all week long.

'Faking' your own prerecorded stuff on your own shows, as a habit - different story.

Funny all these guys who are so against this halftime-synch-ery are those that would probably never, in any circumstances, be asked to to this.

If the NFL came to me and said, "Jimmy, we want you to do the halftime show at the Super Bowl...but you can't play live," I woulda said "HELL YEAH!" in a heartbeat.

But, then I guess I'm just a sell-out.

Better than being an idiot.

In this day, people are happy to see "fake".
Recently watched a Monkees show on Smithsonian Channel...as one of the taalking heads on this programme alluded-
...back then, it was a travesty, a crime, a pulling the wool over the public's eyes, etc to fake it...nowadaze, it's OK.

This is a rather short sited comment yeah?
I do not want to dig but this is all sorts of wrong.

So there's no middle ground? You're either a corporate whore or an idiot? Got it.
