    Gibson SB-450

Yes. SB's are one of those rare breeds that, despite being of an age where collectors have driven most other instruments built at the same time to unaffordable astronomical prices, remain affordable and punch way above their weight. Kinda like Pages Dano. El Cheapo compared to the SBLP, but...

    Gibson SB-450

Zombified, but still... I learned to play on an SB 450, 45 years ago. Tone with the 2 mini humbucker tarbacks is far superior to my EB3L, so much so the EB is up for sale following my recent acquisition of an old SB450. Gibson should have abandoned the mudbucker much earlier than they did, with...

    Keith Ferguson: The Original Influencer

The biggest influence on my playing by far. Loved his playing for years before I finally saw him live with Don Leady in the Tailgators at Fitzgerald's in Berwyn. Beautiful, Monumental! They took a break, I spied him at the bar with 5 whiskeys lined up in front of him. I summoned all my courage...

What stupid and unjustifable hill would you die on?

People who post topics in forums that have nothing to do with the overarching theme of the forum. THAT makes me nuts.

Why do so many players love flats?

D'Addario half rounds, the best of both worlds once broken in. Flats with a light touch. Rounds when you dig in.

Does the bottom cutaway have a router hump?

How bad (or good) was your first bass?

I still have the receipt. I traded a Sears Silvertone, an Ibanez Bob Weir and $150 in cash to get it. Couldn't even get the tuners for that now. Those were great days.

How bad (or good) was your first bass?

I started out on guitar, my longtime bandmate played bass. When we decided to switch, I borrowed his bass, an early 70's Gibson SB400. When I finally decided to get my own, I wanted to copy one of my heroes, Carl Radle, and do the sunburst P body with a J neck thing. Went to the used music...

    Heavy Cabs...........

Both have casters, pull bars and slip covers. I just set them up on their side in my studio... bottom one tilted up slightly, the top one pretty much straight on. When I play out I set them up the traditional way and use the covers to nap on during breaks. They make for a pretty comfy little bed.

    Heavy Cabs...........

] I don't know about a VW, but I do put the whole thing in my Toyota Prius C. Definitely dragging ass, but once again, worth it.

    Heavy Cabs...........

1 '73 Ampeg SVT and 2 Berg NV 610. That's 310 lbs. Total pain to move, but worth all that pain when it gets there. Just a luscious, totally imersive experience.

Gene Simmons says you can only be heard if you play with a pick

Gene Simmons is a world famous clown. Whatever his opinion is on anything, do the opposite and you'll be fine.

    Not a bad halftime show

It's always more interesting (at least to me) watching what these threads morph into than it is perusing the actual content. This one for instance started with opinions on the quality of this year's SBHTS, and quickly morphed into the usual big brains educating us on what music is or isn't...
