It may have a Bass/Guitar button. Make sure its set to bass and not guitar. Stick with it, I feel your pain

Fender knobs have a tiny little screw in the side which you can tighten or release with a flat blade jewlers screwdriver. The worlds least competent DIYer could swap the knobs on a Fender bass in 5 minutes

I did ChemE in England. My main beef with chemE is that you end up working in Chemical Plants. These are horrible smelly ugly places. There is plenty of coin to be had, but its not a nice place to work. I now fix computer networks instead

Thats the expensive bit. The covers only set me back a few quid. A new neck would be a few hundred.

Break up or quit band. Leave it a few weeks, then invite guitarist to join you and the drummer in a new band, with a different name. That way, you arent kicking him out the old band, just starting a new one, into which he isnt invited
