drop tuning on a 33" scale bass

This has been very insightful, thank you so much for the reference links. It all makes sense. my hearing peters out at about 35hz. I don't hear anything past 32hz. This is through high fidelity studio monitors that can reach 20hz, not that its necessary. I do "feel" the air moving as well...

drop tuning on a 33" scale bass

I'm playing almost all guitar right now doing originals(melodic hard rock) at local venues and we drop tune our 6 string guitars to drop C. So essentially drop D tuning, then a whole step down on all the strings. I've written some material that we'll be recording that is on my 7 string and it...

    Anybody slapping with 16.5mm spacing?

Hey, thank you all for you input and insight. I went and spent some time at a local guitar center during lunch. played a jackson spectra x series and a schecter C-4 bass. The smaller spacing, was well, easier for me. Not cleaner, but easier. Action was ridiculously high as is for most...

    Anybody slapping with 16.5mm spacing?

I'm looking to get a 2nd bass, I play an ibanez sr600 today, typical ash body, 19mm spacing, barts, etc. The basses i'm looking at are: yamaha TRBX605 (18mm on the 5 string, 23 5/8" radius, but bolt on neck, bummer...) jackson pro spectra 4 or 5 string (16-17mm spacing, neck through, compound...

Specs on Basson BS1075 32ohm drivers?

I can pickup a basson b810b for a 100 bucks, guess they are giving them away these days, but I was wanting to know if anyone had the specs on these. I was also considering cutting the cab in half and running 1000w rms at 8ohms.

Double Bass Resources to explain xmax?

Dang it, sorry fellas, my eyes and phone are not a good match

Double Bass Resources to explain xmax?

I've been reading past threads about xmax, limitations, etc. I understand that. 4.8 xmax on an eminence delta 12 lfa/c is going to underperform for a 5 string. Is there a chart that shows a coorelation between xmax and desired frequency? I get it about sealed vs vented cabs, tuning the...

    Hartke LX8500 cutting out

And, I figured out what's been causing this phenomenon, it is somewhere in the crossover. I have been skeptical about the crossover with the shunts, and a total cabinet load of 5 ohms while the woofer is 4ohms. I am guessing that the crossover is shunting the 8ohm tweeter, and running the two...

I might be thinking about this incorrectly, but I was going to measure the voltage and current, chart it, and calculate the resistance using resistance=voltage/current.

    Hartke LX8500 cutting out

I cranked to compression as the documentation states that it is designed to protect the speaker from transient spikes. Again, I would never play with it dialed in this way, I was testing to see if full compression would stop the amp power section from cutting out. Im going to test and check...

Yes, but at max, its a fixed compression ratio of 2:1. Interestingly, the documentation says the brite switch has no effect when gain is at 10.

    Hartke LX8500 cutting out

I opened a ticket with hartke, we'll see how it goes. Agedhorse, I do appreciate your input, but I do want to say that the context of this is not griping because this is happening with a rig that I want to use, but testing an amp I just got with the only available cab I have to determine if I...

    Hartke LX8500 cutting out

Im wondering if the crossover network is complicating the matter. the resistance at the jack is 5ohms, if I unplug the woofer, the speaker is at 4ohms. the crossover has some shunts in it. Also, the issue i've been having I can get it do do it at gain @ 10, master volume at 1, but the brite...

With the treble maxed, that is correct. If I tone down the treble, than the hartke gets LOUD.

Well, I just got the amp, was testing it, I haven't cranked it, and the cab still works fine with the backline 600 (300w RMS @ 4ohms), and I can crank it without any distortion. Since I purchased the amp used through reverb.com, I was wanting to test it and ensure it was ok before the 14 day...
