Who inspired you to play bass, Paul McCartney or Paul McCartney?

I never had a band that wanted to play the Beatles, so for me it would be Paul McSting and Paul McAdam-Clayton.

Is my friend a bad person?

I’m not sure why a grown-up man needs to lie about what he buys. I’m not sure why a husband needs to go around doing all these shenanigans so he can hide stuff from his wife. Whatever works for them but frankly the whole thing seems all kinds of wrong.

Double Bass Starting to play DB on the cheap, injury-free

Thank you all. I have contacted the nearest school to see if they rent out instruments. Be still my beating heart. @AGCurry: I used to play guitar and bass before the kids showed up... Also, I know enough theory to annoy your average amateur rock guitarist. I’m fairly confident I’d be able to...

Double Bass Starting to play DB on the cheap, injury-free

Thanks all, I appreciate your input. It doesn’t look like nothing much is going to happen without a bigger budget. Unless I can find a decent one to rent and spend money on lessons instead.

Double Bass Starting to play DB on the cheap, injury-free

Good morning learned folks of TB. I need your advice. I want a double-bass, real bad. Plan A is to save for 3-5 years for a decent beginner one (1500$) and regular lessons, and not learn in the mean time. Plan B is to wait a few months, buy a bottom-of-the-barrel Thomann DB (600$), spend the...

Even if you hate this guy, this is R&R attitude at it's best :) !

He was soo close... All he had to do was take The Rock Pose, you know , legs wide apart, then flail his hair around. And just like that, he would have walked into the Pantheon of (minor) Rock Gods.

    Oy. People are weird.

I wouldn't bother trying to find out the whys and wherefore. Flakes gonna flake. Might as well do it now and get it out of the way. Consider it a kindness.

What key is this intro in

That's a strange thing to say. Sometimes the only thing I know about the song we're about to jam on is the key. The main player is in the groove, finishes a tune, then shouts "A!", and off we go into the mystic. (Off course sometimes they shout the wrong key but nobody got hurt so far...)

    Why no love?

I once picked up my friend's Ibanez, and I couldn't believe how light it was. Then I put my left hand on the neck, and it was so smooth and comfortable that my hand nearly slipped down to the 20th fret all by itself. I want one of those.

RIP Draylen Mason, 17 yo bassist and Austin Bombing victim

Rest in Peace Draylen. "I studied that smooth forehead, that gentle pout of the lips, and I said to myself here is the face of a musician, a Mozart as a child; here is a fine promise of life." Wind, Sand and Stars - Antoine de St Exupery

New Drummer won't stop staring at my fingers.

When I dabbled in jazz, I always assumed the bass player (me) was the heartbeat. Not in a You da man kinda way. More like Do your job... or the beat gets it in the head kinda way! But I remember trying veeery hard to really lock in with the bass drum one day. Then I... well, we all realised...

    It's official. I don't play bass anymore :-(

The long list of things I should/shouldn't have done goes back to the kindergarten courtyard in the autumen of '79*, so I've just been trying to tick things off the list the best I can since then. Anyway, the basses are now gone, I've made my peace with that. As a final note, thank you all for...

    It's official. I don't play bass anymore :-(

Thanks guys. The thing is I don't even have time to practice at all, and that's probably not going to change for... some time. It just kills me to have to sell instruments that I like and that I was hoping to find again in a few years. Time to let go of some material things. Life lessons suck...
