I have the opposite problem. Tall and wide. Try a Fender strap. Every one of them I've tried has left half the bass above my nipples :eek:. Or maybe a really nice guitar strap. Something that won't break with the weight of a bass on it. As for standing vs sitting, I've always felt more...

This. I also found that if I use the pad of my index finger to fret notes but use the tips of my other fingers combined with a floating thumb technique was the easiest for me to mute notes with out any of the beginner problems like harmonics ringing out and such.

Thanks for the quick reply! I've been looking at the Carvin basses, the Icon 5 string specifically. They're beautiful and I've seen mostly high praise for them and Carvin in general. After pricing one out, it's a bit out of my price range and putting it on credit isn't really an option for me...
