    Greco Rickenbacker pup replacement

To clarify, I mean literally IN the bridge. Kind of changes the meaning of bridge pickup as pertains to the rickenbacker design, but still. I want Mmmmoooorrrreee experimental, if we're going that way. Unless, by god, you mean literally putting a strat pickup in the standard bridge cavity of a...

    Greco Rickenbacker pup replacement

I didn't mention it because it wasn' t really relevant but I've done it already. I mean, it's a télé pickup, but still. Threw it in the bridge last year, sounds great, got a sweet 8 way wiring set-up going with incredible choices. Can't recommend it enough. Not what I was asking though. Great...

    Greco Rickenbacker pup replacement

Hi, my Greco RB700 has been through 36 years of monstrous tone in the jungles of Thailand and the bridge pickup has fairly abruptly degaused. I've got a pretty great tech and we've come to the conclusion that the thing to do is to replace the pickups, ideally with real Rick pups. My question is...

I have a bad habit of using my pinkie instead of my ring finger.

Everybody feels like they should be doing something meaningful but nothing fits or satisfies, so they dance around the same inane minutiae online until they're tired or numb enough to sleep and start it all again the next day. Or maybe that's just me.

Can anyone explain vintage rick copies going for over $800?

I picked up a Greco Rick copy last year. Best bass I've ever had, bar none. Peavey, Squier, Ibanez, Jackson, lots of fun stuff, but it's the only bass I've ever been satisfied with. Cost about 450 dollars. It's a 1982 model, and the olympic white has faded into an off cream. Plus, I threw an...

How to Phrase Bass Licks like Jaco Pastorius?

Well, first things first, the harmony changes key à number of times in this particular example, so if your ears are expecting only one key then it would naturally sound very outside of that key. The rest is learning scales and using flavourful scale notes over the proper chords, along with...

Silk on Both ends - extra light gauges

Literally the first thing that comes up on google when you search "medium gauge bass strings" is a chart that denotes 45s as being medium gauge bass strings. You've got me on the 105. Depends on where the other strings are sitting too. Nonetheless, definitely not "extra-light", unless you've...

Silk on Both ends - extra light gauges

45-100 is what I would call medium gauge, not light at all. Past that, no idea.

String squeaks are driving me completely insane

I used to live in Canada and strings definitely lasted a lot longer for me there. I'd never even broken a string there on bass. Happens fairly frequently here, so I'm assuming it's an environmental factor. I usually use d'addario, or fender strings. Sometimes rotos when I can get them.

String squeaks are driving me completely insane

I usually use very light gauges, 90s or 95s. After that I just leave them out for easy practice and I play reeeally hard. I've got very sweaty hands too, so that adds a lot to my string wear.

String squeaks are driving me completely insane

You'd be surprised how quickly strings rust and break given daily exposure to humid, salty ocean air. Usually I get a month out of a pack and two or three out of a set of bass strings before the E or G string breaks. I don't usually change them until they break because it's just not economical...

String squeaks are driving me completely insane

I do this with my parlor and the guitar never sounded better. Plus I don't have to worry about rust in the humid Land of Smiles. It's a bit quieter but that was honestly to be expected anyway, and the nylons suit my sensibilities much more anyway. Of course you can throw nylons on acoustic...
