Most frustrating band members you have had

Probably the ones that just kicked me out of their band. I formed the band with them and one day the singer decided the band was "hers", and the drummer was in love with her so he would back up all her stupid ideas. I was the guitarist and saved two shows by finding a sub quickly when the...

    Anybody ever been on TV?

Yeah, I did a song with ShyAnne Hovorka on Tv Ottawa one time.

    Reasons to Walk

I'm putting the feelers out. I have some gigs to finish with this band first. I gotta honor my commitments and then hopefully find something better.

    Reasons to Walk

Absolutely. The singer and the drummer talk a lot before band meetings and I'm in the dark. At first, it was the singer defending the drummer doing "gang vocals" or singing in unison with the lead singer all the time. I was trying to talk sense into them that you don't want to do that if you...

    'Live' bands with backing tracks

I tried to bring clicks into my band but they're not really good at playing to them so they make up excuses not to use them. You kinda need them with pop music unless you have a really good keyboard player that's running loops but at that point you're on a click anyway.

    Reasons to Walk

My band is kind of getting to that point. I have to do all the work of musical director. Showing people where the beat stops and starts, teaching them how to sing the harmonies and the singer wants to sit back and call the shots. If I ask to be musical director, they tell me I'm not good...

    Reasons to Walk

I can think of a reason to walk. If your band is quick to criticize you but can't take criticism.

How would you address these issues?

Another update: I tried to speak to the band about who is in charge of what and how to address canceling gigs. The singer said they assumed they were the leader and had the final say on all matters. They basically think this is because they are the singer and often a lead singer will tell...

How would you address these issues?

Update. We are going to use a substitute player for the rest of the concerts we have booked. The drummer called the club and tried to cancel another gig without telling me and the owner gave him hell so he decided to go with my idea of using the sub. It's too bad he didn't just listen to me...

How would you address these issues?

I think it's more than acceptable to perform the harmonies that appear on the recording. I wouldn't add extra harmonies unless there was a good reason to.

How would you address these issues?

It bothers me when I take the time to learn harmonies and then the singer gets rid of them for no reason. Sometimes it's a brand new song but other times it's harmony parts I've done at gigs already. At the end of the day, I have to teach the other guys what notes to sign so I'm doing the work...

How would you address these issues?

Absolutely. I seem to be the only one in the group that can hear three part harmony and give everyone their notes as they're recorded on the album. The singer wants to be the vocal director because they're not used to singing difficult parts with the harmonies. We had to scrap some songs by...

How would you address these issues?

I agree completely. The issue with the harmony is this: The singer doesn't have experience singing lead vocals when other others are singing 2 or 3 part harmony at the same time and it throws them off. Instead of practicing that way, they just tell us to stop singing. The other issue is that...

How would you address these issues?

Thanks. When I mean the band called the promoter, the singer talked to the drummeŕ and then told the promoter to cancel the show without speaking to me at all. I was calling my backup guys at the time to see if they were available to sub and I had permission from the injured band member to use...
