His musical style emulates the likes of James Dewar, the bassist and vocalist for the Robin Trower band. It's no wonder as he spent countless hours studying the lyrical and vocal style of James,as well as his bass playing.
In the last 15 years, Charles has worked to become fixture in the Central Ohio music scene, including ownership in Rokcity studios, which closed in May of 2009,due in part to his illness. He has performed and shared the stage with many popular bands in the Ohio area and has established himself as one of the go to Funkrock bassists and vocalist in the Ohio region. With experience in many musical styles from progressive rock to soulful Funk came some opportunities to play in varied situations. Charles has excelled as an accomplished performer and band leader.
"The key is to be intuitive" says Grace. "You have to know how to read the members of your band and work with them to consistently make the music sound good." His early experiences in branching out to new genres taught him to listen to what the music is trying to say and play to that style. Charles attributes his success to each project he has worked on, taking notes from the musicians and applying them to his own musical style. "You have to keep an open mind musically, and be patient because overplaying a bass line can be just as disastrous as underplaying one."
Charles is the founding member and the Bassist/vocalist and songwriter for Unisoul ,a band he likes to call "Progressive Soulrock". His songwriting skills and lyrical content, along with his rock-solid bass lines and strong vocals compliments this band with tasty understatement. Also on the books is the new band CGB or The Charles Grace Band. Both bands can be found on Facebook. A cover band hittin the Funk , Jazzrock and Soul tunes from the 70"s and beyond.
