New Build - VR-1 Ranger Bass

That's a really interesting grain pattern on the fretboard. I've always been slightly nervous about using such heavily figured wood for fbs. Have you had to fill the knots with anything to make it usable or was it flat to begin with? Manny

Praxist's 1st annual TB bass build competition entry: The P-Rick

I think so many of us have learnt this the hard way. Extra work put in at this stage pays huge dividends towards the final stages of the finishing process. It's coming together really nicely :)

New Build - VR-1 Ranger Bass

Makes perfect sense, thanks. I'm a pretty inexperienced builder and have only ever used set (non-adjustable) rods so it's good to learn how to test one of these! Keep up the good work :)

First Annual (maybe) TalkBass (unofficial) build competition entry

This is looking sweet. I'm loving the materials people are using for these builds. Looking forward to seeing this develop. Best of luck to you!

New Build - VR-1 Ranger Bass

This looks like it's coming on really well and it's always nice to see selfless acts for the good of the community (damn commie :D) I'm looking forward to see it progress. When you mentioned the truss rod failing a few posts ago, what did you mean, and how did you test it? Manny,

Very basic question about finishing a body

I used tru oil recently on a replacement neck for my P and didn't use any filler. It turned out really well, a nice even gloss. Just make sure you leave it to dry properly as it can stay tacky for quite a while in some environments. Manny

Remove Classic Vibe neck gloss finish?

I vote hammer :D Sandpaper would achieve a nicer finish but is far less fun. On a more serious note, if you're just trying to get a satin finish you could scuff it up with some steel wool to remove some of that sticky gloss. Manny :)

New Build for Mick Vaughn, of Tim Reynolds and TR3

I've been following this thread since it started and I have to say that the bass looks amazing! The fact that this is only your 5th (ish ;)) professional build is a testament to your natural talent. I dread to imagine how perfect the finish will be after 10 or 20 :D. The revised body...
