Hey Joe Try this-it seems to fit the bass nicely and should really open up your ears.Play triads in 4ths.I start on E and go 1 3 5 octave E.Then go to the same thing in A etc.Put a nice rhythm to it and keep going all around the horn.I've done it enough that I jam thru it and turn it into a jazz...

Rich-read your post and replies would like to respond with something no one else touched on.Charlie Haden was playing an acoustic instrument set up for maximum tone and projection. Do the same for your solid body instrument. High action and perfect intonation! Then break it in with lots of scale...
