    Bass for acoustic rock?

You don't need a special electric bass to play acoustic-leaning music, unless you need something for the visual. And yes, most ABG's sound like shite, acoustic or plugged in. Too many examples to list. Listen to the greats like Lee Sklar for example on James Taylor, etc. Here's Nashville legend...

DAW and EZ Drum instead of Drum Machine. PC Ableton and EzDrummer

Yep, very true. But I do think the complexity and busy-ness of lots of these stock MIDI parts is intentional as I say, so you have more to work with than you need and you can just whack stuff out. Heck even the sounds are kind of presented that way, for example almost every kick has waaay more...

DAW and EZ Drum instead of Drum Machine. PC Ableton and EzDrummer

Yeah, the thing is though, when I do use their loops and just drop 'em in as-is, they're very often too busy and need some finessing (for pop, rock, etc styles in particular). But some of that is intentional - it enables you to use a reductive approach, so it's very easy and fast to simply open...

DAW and EZ Drum instead of Drum Machine. PC Ableton and EzDrummer

EZ Drummer is one of the best bang-for-buck virtual drum solutions out there. You can get very deep with it and use it for full-on professional productions, but it's also super easy (EZ!) to use for knocking out demos, practicing, etc. I've used it since it first came out (I use it in Logic) - I...

Tuner, compressor then “blank” into combo amp?

Love it. I do that sometimes too with one of the little pedalboard risers and just run batteries.

Tuner, compressor then “blank” into combo amp?

Xotic RC V2. And yes, on the active basses too. You can thank me later ;)

    Lightweight tuner miracle

Yep, I'm with my gravel and 'cross bikes the same way I am with my basses---"light weight" is not the be all-end-all. Give me a great feeling, quality steel frame that fits me right and has a great ride quality over some harsh feeling featherweight carbon wonder. With basses give me a heavier...

    Inexpensive Short Scale for child

I second all the mini type options. I got my kid a Bronco when he was about that age and it was still way too big for him. Upside is, I still have it, covered in everything from dinosaur to skater stickers, and I leave it in the car as a beater/expendable backup sometimes.

    NBD Lakland

Awesome, looks killer! Always was a 130 or 135 B guy, but I'm using .125 Bs on everything now with DR Nickel Lo Riders and Legends (45-125). I find I get a clearer, and (perhaps counterintuitively) more integrated with the other strings low B this way. Sounds better in the upper registers too.

Dennis Dunaway and Bob Ezrin tour

Dennis inspired me to play bass as well--I didn't even know what a bass was, then I started getting into AC and his playing just jumped out at me.

    Bright J bass pickups

Yes one person's bright is another's...not bright enough! I have had all three of the popular DiMarzio hum-cancelling J's: Model J--super thick beefy mids, not bright. Ultras - bright top and deep lows, very scooped sounding in the mids. Area J's--sounds the most like a single coil, but can be...

    Bright J bass pickups

Fender Pure Vintage 74's are very punchy in the upper mids, and to me, bright (as bright as I would ever want but YMMV). My fave sc J pickups even over more boutique options I've tried. Great for anything where you want to have a somewhat aggressive sound. I put them on a too-polite sounding...

    Btb upgrade for gospel

I love the NTMB pre in my MTD Kingston. To me it is very organic sounding. Passive option on any active bass is a must-have IMO. The mid control is super versatile. Mine has the push pull - in the down position the freq is 250 and up it is 800. I get my desired tone with it centered, and then...

Can”t hear any bass at live shows anymore

It's frustrating that so many of these FOH mixers seem to think they should apply one approach to whatever genre and style of music they're faced with. I mean, don't they listen to different recorded music? I went to a reggae show at a big venue with some big time legacy reggae acts, leaning to...
