I'm lefty but play righty. I started playing bass after fooling around on my dad's (right-handed) acoustic guitar, so when I started playing bass it was just easier to play right handed. I tried a left handed guitar a little while ago, and it's the most uncomfortable thing I've ever played, lol...

I know that the bass player in caP'n Jazz used an Ampeg SVT, so you might want to take a look at Ampeg's budget combo amps. They seem pretty good, but apparently there is a loud buzzing? Not sure, I've never owned one. Also I think the SVT is used by AF nowadays, not sure if they used back when...

For me, pretty much any midwest emo or math rock band, although a few are getting some recognition. caP'n Jazz, Giraffes? Giraffes!, or Tera Melos to name a few.

I have a Yamaha TRBX304, it's $350, 34" and has 24 frets. It's not that heavy imo, but I don't really have anything to compare it to.
