New ampeg speculation - A true B15 Reissue?

Great news on forthcoming B-15 re-run! Can I assure Ampeg that there would be a huge appetite for a re-issue "for the masses" B-15. Can I just ask that a few are configured for 230/240V for European Market export!!

DIY Tube Amp - 5F6A "Bassman" with 6550's

As a footnote, I see Ampeg have chosen "Winged C" 6550 power tubes for the top-of-the-line Heritage series SVT-CL. I rest my case!!

It keeps her cooool man!!! Seriously though, to keep it cool, I have a 60mm fan powered off the DC heater circuit. The perforated stainless that the valve sockets are mounted on provides the exit of the cooling air form the chassis, hence also keeping the valves cool.

Stainless steel, so it will be poished!! The camera dosn't do it justice, but it could do with being buffed up a bit!

I have a cage too, B-15 fliptop inspired (see photo). The chassis was made with 2 metres of 3"x2” aluminium channel with 2mm sheet aluminium on top and bottom. It is a method of construction recommended by Morgan Jones book “Building Valve Amplifiers” – check it out on Google Books.

Pgk – What I’m going to do is fit a 1st stage preamp cathode bypass capacitor bypass lift. The 1st stage of a Bassman is a 12AY7 twin triode valve, half of which is dedicated to the “Normal” inputs and half to “Bright” inputs (see picture). The Cathodes of the two halves are tied together and...

James, you are so right there! A few shipping containers full, and we'd be bona fide millionaires!!! Any questions on the build, give me a shout. I'm no real expert myself, I just took time to read as much as I could (look up any books by Morgan Jones or Gerald Weber).

DIY Tube Amp - 5F6A "Bassman" with 6550's

James, you are of course correct on the out of date-ness of this report, but it was all I had to go on, having had no previous experience of 6550's and not wanting to part with over £100 ($150) for a pair of Groove Tubes 6550's. I had heard that some 6550's/KT88's were more bias (forgive the...

    Paul, used the following Hammond Transformers: Power - Hammond 372JX (300-0-300V HT) Choke - Hammond 193N (3H @ 500mA) O/T - Hammond Hammond 1750M (Bassman style with 2, 4 & 8 ohm secondary)

I would steer clear of current issue Tung Sol stuff, the original tung sols were amongst the best, but the current lot are Chinese and of variable quality. I decided to stick to Groove Tubes Slovakian tubes for pre-amp (made by JJ Electronics and tested and rated at a specified level for...

DIY Tube Amp - 5F6A "Bassman" with 6550's

Thanks pgk, my thoughts exactly! Who needs 500W never mind 1000W!!! With PA’s as good as they are now, just needed something on 60 to 70 watt range to keep up with drums, Ampeg SVTDI and PA does the rest!! As for the circuit make up, the input jacks to phase inverter is pure 5F6A...
