Double Bass What is an Opening Night?

Well, I suppose the reason this is even coming up is with regards to dress -if I have season tickets to the opening night of each production for this season, is black-tie appropriate for them all?

Double Bass What is an Opening Night?

This is a slightly foolish question, but I honestly am not sure: At the opera, is Opening Night the first performance of the season or is it the first performance of a given production in a season, without regard to whether it be first or last?

Double Bass Lou Fischer's Stylistic Etudes in the Jazz Idiom

I am having to cross-post with the electric bass forum, as this is truly an emergency as far as time is concerned. I really hope I can find someone with a copy. Does anyone happen to have this book? I cannot find mine, and I have a question. I need a quick reply if possible. Thank you!

Stylistic Etudes in the Jazz Idiom

I'm sorry for the shameless bump, but deadlines are fast approaching and I know this book is used for All-State Auditions in States across the country.

    Double Bass Thomas Martin

I doubt he would use the same bass in the LSO and in solo-playing, so that could potentially account for it. Petracchi being super loud might be it, too. Re-tellings after several generations add up!

    Double Bass Thomas Martin

Yes he is. I have heard, however, that he is a VERY quiet player. I heard a story that during a recording of one of Bottesini's duos for two basses (with Mr Martin and Francesco Petracchi as the bassists) Mr Petracchi had to be moved far away from the mics because of how much sound he put out...

Double Bass Question Regarding the Bach Viola da Gamba Sonata no. 2 for Auditions

Many schools ask for a baroque sonata (including Juilliard and Oberlin), and I have chosen Bach's Viola da Gamba Sonata No. 2 (edited by Sankey), and there is a part I am not sure how to address. In the second movement (Allegro), there is an octave-up section on the first page. My teacher and...

Double Bass Compositions for Solo Classical Bass, 1901 to 1945 (Modern period)?

Koussevitzky Concerto is 1905. The Dragonetti Concerto is suspected to be from the early 1920s, I think. Chanson Triste (Koussevitzky) is from 1906, according to IMSLP.

Double Bass German Bows that I am Checking out

Louis, I am actually looking at getting it as I have a C. Olsen French Bow. I was talking to the people at Bass Cellar and they said it seemed a little "crude." My French is fantastic for the price I got it at, and I got it at that price due to the kindness of Mr Hollingsworth (who I believe was...
