    Tips for going on tour

Ear plugs! For when you want to sleep and for bands whose acts got tiresome five shows ago.

    Bassplaying and Babies

Ah, building your own band from the ground up. Nice job! I have an 18 month old and +1 to those recommending headphone amps. I decided early on in my sons life that I wanted to be a dad, work and play music until I was told I couldn't anymore then and only then would I assess my options...

The Musician's Bill Of Rights Upon Entering A Recording Studio

Nice job! I liked the section on data loss as that seems like it would be a gray area as far as the engineer/musician relationship goes. Also, I appreciate forward thinking articles like this in that there is so much changing in the industry right now. To put a marker down like this to at...

20 things you MUST know about music online

Fantastic! Though, I imagine that anyone who has seriously attempted to sell their music in the last 3 years has these rules ingrained in their heads. The second part; getting those ideas to work, where the academic meets the pragmatic, that's the hard part. A friend of mine who runs his...

    Making a talkbass band directory?

Wow. It seems like this would be an amazing thing to have. I can't believe that there isn't any interest in it- especially now with summer touring season getting under way. bump-a!

    Double Bass Bow practice?

+1 You can also practice familiar scales that your fingers know by rote, but hearing the bow drone on open stings is good to get the initial feeling.

Double Bass Singer snapped my neck!

I just got my bass back from the luthier this weekend and wow! I decided to drop a good chunk of money on it and got a new bridge and some fingerboard work done as well as the repairs to the neck and body from the spill it took this summer. The work for the snapped neck and a crack in the...

    Any bands printing vinyl?

Kinda in regard to what Joel S said above, you do have to do separate mixes for vinyl and digital. Add that on top of the cost of pressing, working along those lines really pushes the budget and may not be worth it. On the other hand, I still buy new vinyl and really like seeing that kind of...

Using the web as a "band organizer"

I too have built up my band's Web site only to have it set aside in favor of the more immediately accessible Myspace. Accessiblity to users and band members alike make Myspace much more of a viable option, but I can't get over just how much every Myspace page looks like the last. Super-yawn...

For the visually impaired T'Ber - glasses or contacts?

Make sure any glasses you have are tight enough around the ears to keep then from flying off your head when rockin' out. Contacts have done right by me for the most part, but Seattle bars are non-smoking and that helps out tremendously.

    Friendship vs. Music

Interestingly, I was just talking with a friend who has run a relatively successful label in Chicago for the past 12 years, and he mentioned how important it was for a band to be able to stick together. He said that as an indie label, a band with a good working relationship with one another for...
