Shielding pickup cavities... to foam or not to foam?

That puts my mind at ease. Thanks both for your help.

Shielding pickup cavities... to foam or not to foam?

It might bottom out... as there's what looks like a magnet glued to the bottom of them. Leaving about 1/4" for the springs. With the foam taken out, pickup sitting right on the bottom of cavity, it sits above flush with the body about 1/4". Right about where I like them. Maybe i'll just put a...

Shielding pickup cavities... to foam or not to foam?

I'm about to shield a new bass with copper tape (w/ conductive adhesive). There's small pieces of dense foam under each pickup, likely for height adjustment... but the pickups are sitting a bit high for me, so i'm taking out the foam bits and using pickup springs instead. My question is...

    AG42 ...I sent you a PM.

NBD: J&D JB Mini (shortscale jazz bass)

Did some figurin' on that today. You can essentially get plus or minus 1mm on all strings with that 1.5mm each way. All centered is 19mm. If you move the E and G strings completely "out" (1.5mm), and the A and D strings out 0.5mm ... you'd have 20mm spacing across all strings. ...or 18mm if you...

NBD: J&D JB Mini (shortscale jazz bass)

Thanks for this AG42. Just looking at the diagrams on Hipshot website... it looks like the FM1. Did you change the string spacing at all from the standard 19mm? I was really wanting to go a bit tighter, like the 18 or 17.5 bridge and adjust from there to my preference, but those ones have a 4...

NBD: J&D JB Mini (shortscale jazz bass)

@AG42 Are those Hipshot bridges the FM1 or FM2 ? Going by the layout diagram it looks like one of them has 5 holes and the other 3. I have the same bass in minty fresh green on the way. Should be here in a week and a half. Just got notified to pay duty on it. I'll be going with the same...

Bass > effect pedal > XLR or TS cable to audio interface?

Yes, I also always thought of it as 1 ring; mono/unbalanced, 2 ring; stereo/balanced. They really should be called TRS(mono) , T2RS(stereo).

Bass > effect pedal > XLR or TS cable to audio interface?

The xlr I ordered is only 3 ft, which should work well for my desktop setup. My interface sits between a powered monitor, landline phone, voip adapter, router and modem. All hard wired, so no worries of wifi interference. But it's quite a bit of electronic devices within about 5 ft, so thought...

Bass > effect pedal > XLR or TS cable to audio interface?

The KA2 has a switch beside each input (line/inst). I'll try both, starting with instrument and see what the levels are like with the xlr cable. Also just to note, my bass has passive electronics w/Bartolini jazz pickups. Thanks for your help Bonafide.

Bass > effect pedal > XLR or TS cable to audio interface?

The 1/4" output of the pedal is TS according to the manual... so unbalanced. Not sure on the interface, but probably the same. No wifi in the area, but lots of other corded electronics in the immediate area, so i'll go xlr just for that added peace of mind. Thanks for that And I.

Bass > effect pedal > XLR or TS cable to audio interface?

I have a Behringer BDI21 preamp/tone shaper pedal on the way. It has both XLR and 1/4" cable outputs. Just want to go Bass> into pedal> into my audio interface (Native Instruments Komplete Audio 2), which has a couple combo (XLR/TS) inputs. Is there any difference in quality of signal, or...
