Shielding pickup cavities... to foam or not to foam?

I'm about to shield a new bass with copper tape (w/ conductive adhesive).

There's small pieces of dense foam under each pickup, likely for height adjustment... but the pickups are sitting a bit high for me, so i'm taking out the foam bits and using pickup springs instead.

My question is; after the foam is removed and the cavity is copper shielded, do I need something between the shielding and bottom of the pickups? My concern is if I lower the pickups so that the bottoms touch the shielding, will it short something out? Thx.

No you shouldn't. I don't think you would lower it enough to touch the shielding because the spring wouldn’t be able to compress that far.

It might bottom out... as there's what looks like a magnet glued to the bottom of them. Leaving about 1/4" for the springs.

With the foam taken out, pickup sitting right on the bottom of cavity, it sits above flush with the body about 1/4". Right about where I like them.
Maybe i'll just put a piece of thin card stock in there after the shielding, just to be safe.

The magnet shouldn’t ground out the pickup if they touch the shielding. If you’re concerned, put some electrical tape or like you said, some card stock on the magnets. If nothing else, it won’t hurt anything.

Clear packing tape also works well over copper shielding tape, as an insulated barrier. If something electrical is close to it and you are worried about it shorting out.
