    Practice routine

So I've resumed my bass playing after almost an year's time (I played maybe a dozen times in 2022). Unsurprisingly, I do feel quite lost now and am not sure about the practice routine I want to follow. I mostly want to work on the following areas: 1. Endurance and right hand position (especially...

Using harmonics on bass in place of dead notes

Yeah like personally for me even though I love the sound of old jazz it's really double bass centric. So modern jazz kind of works around that and makes it feel like being an electric bass player isn't a limitation when it comes to jazz. And Tom driessler is such an insane bassist, it's a shame...

Using harmonics on bass in place of dead notes

Around the 1:50 mark, Tom Driessler (I think he did the bass for this) plays a brilliant bass fill which uses a combination of harmonics and dead notes. Does anybody know any other songs that use Harmonics in place of dead notes in basslines? Also does anybody know any exercises/recommendations...

Feel like I'm running out of ideas

I've not been playing the bass for too long and managed to get stuck in my comfort zone before the lockdown. I managed to come out of it in this lockdown but it feels like I'm slowly and slowly moving into a second comfort zone. Here's a recording of me playing along with a drum track sent by a...

    Confusion regarding odd time signatures

Okay so I was just talking to one of my friends about a song he's planning on doing in a 17/16 time signature. I've been playing the bass for around 3 years now and honestly I've mostly concentrated on things in 4/4. I had visualised a 17/16 as 3 quarters and 5 sixteenths. However he told me...

    Opinions?

Okay so this is a really weird tuning, I got a pack of Ernie Ball 6 string bass guitar strings (29 5/8 scale) a while back for my 29 inch short scale bass but well, due to being way too short. The thinnest string broke. Instead of throwing it away I swapped the thinnest and thickest strings. So...

First upload on YouTube, anticipate opinions

Thanks a lot! Yes it's a 4 string aria STB jb bass. The effects were added in logic Pro x (echo pedal, chorus pedal and compressor) and the settings on my bass was bridge pickup volume only, cut out the bass and mids and add a little bit of treble with a contour effect and tone at about 60%.

First upload on YouTube, anticipate opinions

So I came up with this oddity a few days ago and my friend helped me record it with effects. There still is feedback in some areas but I actually feel that it adds a very natural and dark feel to it. What do you guys think of it?

I'm from india and am thinking of signing up for Scott's bass lessons. Anyone from india who has enrolled in this online course? If so, can anybody tell me whether the payment gateway is safe? And also how is the course in general? I've heard a great deal of good about it but some personal...

Want an opinion on these three recordings

I used to fiddle around with this one bass tuning I came up with- ACEG, basically tuning every thing to thirds so that you can make a lot of open tuning stuff. I still do fiddle around with it but not quite as much; I came up with these three recordings a while back and want an opinion on them...

Can someone tell me a decent bass practice schedule?

I'm sorry I couldn't get my point clear. My point was practicing the major scale over two octaves and not just that but also going up half a step when descending down the major step. The thing is when you ascend down the scale in a certain scale, you'll be used to that scale and will...

Can someone tell me a decent bass practice schedule?

Okay so I tried out this new exercise on bass and want all of your opinions on whether it's any good or not. Basically I cover two octaves of a major scale but when I start descending I go up a half step. Basically I start with the C major scale, go up two octaves and when I descend, I change to...
