Short scale vs medium scale acoustic bass

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to weigh in. I hgave a 32" scale 5 string ABG E-C. Mine was made by the wonderful @Steve Burke . One caveat, t's built with a patented Ovaldi Linden "bass resonator" Here is a video if it being played. Anyway I have onlty used Labella Black Tapes on...

Club Stambaugh - Show your Stammies!! [Part 6]

Got my Stambaugh ODB today in a trade. Really love it! It came with the paperwork from when the original owner bought in 2015. Very light, ergonomical, plays lovely and looks fantastic. I am thrilled.

The upper horn on mine I believe lines up right at the end of fret 12. I'll ask.

Club Stambaugh - Show your Stammies!! [Part 6]

Wow that's a sexy bass. I am sure that must be fun to play. That top is gorgeous! I do see what you mean about the upper horn. What pickups are on it? The guy I am getting it from confirmed that my that bass was made in Fall 2015. It has a mahogany body, bolt on maple neck, ebony board, & a...

Club Stambaugh - Show your Stammies!! [Part 6]

So I am about to trade for the fretless Stambugh below. I have never seen a Stammie with one pickup and very few switches/knobs. Have you guys ever seen this model, or bodyshape etc? For what I have been told it's a passive bass that has a Mahogany body, maple neck, and ebony board. The MM...

Ernie Ball Earthwood vs Guild B50

According to Brian Ritchie ...I am paraphrasing: The extended upper bout of the BJ bass which is above the body and neck of the instrument, are part of its raidcal design, besides the fact that it can be played upright. The extra bout capictates more sound and in turns helps stabilize the...

Ernie Ball Earthwood vs Guild B50

I had an Earthwood too, I sold it because it was not comfortable. My Emerald Balor, with a med-high action, good (steel/chrome/nickel) strings has good volume and bass resonance. I useit in a string band setting with a banjo, guitar, fiddle and mandolin without any complaints.

Ernie Ball Earthwood vs Guild B50

He just got another one yesterday. They actually sound very good. I think that concept would work well as a stand up 5 string bass.

EUR and AUS Anyone Going To The Guitar Summit Sept '24?

Thanks Karl. if o were to get one. And again I am dreaming here, I would sell off all of 2 ABG’s to afford this one. (I would keep the spider) To your point about strings, I can agree that the instrument picks the string it needs, not the player.
