I fully agree with you, in all my years of bassing I've never blown an amp or cab so I'm pretty surprised this has happened. All this information is helping me be more informed of the situation.

Thanks, and my cabs have never sounded 'strained' to my ears. I have also looked at other topics on this matter, I have read different articles on the internet, but I came here to talk to people about the issue more directly :)

So the two output jacks distribute 250W each? The Ampeg is 220W.

So if only half as much power is leaving each channel, how can that blow the cab? Sorry if these questions seem a bit obvious.

Also when you say 250 watt output of my amp, do you mean the amp splits the Ws into each cab? It's a 500w amp.

Thank you, I find it hard to accept that mixing cabs could be the only explanation. I'm experienced and have many other experienced people around me, yet no one has said it would be a bad idea to mix, and especially as I don't crank the amp past maybe 3 at the most. I will be getting back to...

I'm confused now, do you mean the amp is too powerful of the 115, or because I used two cabs that's how I've damaged it? And why would the pair be a bad pairing?

I don't know what you mean by chaining, there are two outputs from the amp, one I put to the Hartke and one to the Ampeg

Both Hartke and Ampeg are 8-Ohms, the amp is 8 or 4 ohms which I have set to 8ohms.

Yeah the 4x10 sounds pretty lovely by it's self. Will that as a 300W cab be fine to continue using with the 500W head?
