Softer neck for studio bass / hard neck for the gigging bass - truth?

The guy points out a thing; neck stability. I'm all for the more stable neck, but the rubber neck is supposed to sound bigger? I don't buy it.

    Mel Schacher

Mel is my idea of a hard rock bassist. He fits perfectly in a power trio because he can definitely provide 33.3% of the music. Nothing agains Farner or Kulick, but I've always wanted to hear Mel, with his '69-'71 tone, in trio with a shredder like Joe Satriani and a drummer like Vinnie...

Going back and fourth between flats and rounds?

Yes I do, or more than I ever swapped from rounds to other rounds. I start wanting to hear that bright, ringing, piano tone from my P-bass, so I put on the rounds. In no time, I'm missing the smooth, full thump of flats, so I go back to the flats. I recently put a set of Chromes on my Jazz...

    Short scale bass inquiry

If you are really serious about getting an upright tone you should check out the Gold Tone Micro bass. The 25" scale model is going to be shorter than the average short scale, but it will have the deep bass and short decay of an upright. I have a micro 23" , but I would like to have the 25"...

What should I do to increase string tension?

Back off the truss rod adjustment about a full turn. It doesn't change the tension, but it will feel a lot higher tension.

Not a poll, but do you prefer active or passive & why,,

I've come full circle on this issue, starting out with a Jazz copy that had only one single coil lipstick pup, moving through several basses to a three band active Carvin LB75 and a BB75 fretless, and several other active basses. About two years ago I bought a poor man's tone styler (6 position...

    Dunlop Superbrights manufacturing flaws?

I noticed that he said "the problem". There have been three problems identified in this thread alone (intonation, breaking strings, buzzing strings). I'm not sure which one has been identified and corrected, but it sounds like one down and ?? to go. I like the SB's on my basses that have...

    Dunlop Superbrights manufacturing flaws?

Is there confirmation the problem(s)have been resolved? They're not expensive strings, but I still don't want to spend the dollars, take the time on installation, adjustment, etc, only to take them back off and re-install the old strings because I can't get the SB's intonated. My time isn't...

    Dunlop Superbrights manufacturing flaws?

Bought two sets of SB stainless. The ball end snapped off the G of one set when I had it at about halfway up to pitch. Contacted Dunlop & they quickly sent TWO sets to replace the set with the bad G. That was good. Once I had a set installed on a '05 MIM P-bass, I couldn't get the A & D...

    Dunlop Flatwounds premiering at NAMM

I'll probably try a set. I don't think I'll try any more Super Brights unless I hear of a change. Cheap doesn't mean much if I can't get them on pitch across the 1st octave.

    Dunlop Flatwounds premiering at NAMM

What kind of bass did you put the Dunlop Flats on? I tried the Super Brights on two Carvins, a Peavey, a Fender, a Gibson, and a Spirit by Steinberger. I couldn't get the intonation set on any of those basses and I had four sets of the Superbrights to try, so they are either all bad or I was...

Time to switch to Dunlop Super Brights!!!

My LB75 is a '98 model & it runs out of screw on the D & A before I reach proper intonation. Exactly the same for the BB75, which I think is around a 2000 model, but both have Wilkinson bridges. My '93 Gibson Thunderbird has a Hipshot Supertone Bridge replacing the 3 point stock bridge. It...

    Dunlop Flatwounds premiering at NAMM

Any unusual issues getting the intonation set with the Dunlop Flats? I'd like to try a set, but I can't us the Dunlop Superbrights on 7 of 9 basses because I can't get the intonation set; I run out of bridge adjustment. I'm reluctant to try the flats for fear they will have the same problem.
