I've seen some unusual Fenders before, but...

I think I remember reading that it's some sort of ground. I do have a Klira Arkansas bass (w/ red "naugahyde"-esque vinyl and only one pickup) and it has one of those tabs as well. The pg is painted metal but the paint isn't conductive, so I guess that was their solution.

 +1 for German vinyl-covered guitars!! Here's a Klira (not mine) covered in a red version of that same vinyl....work of art.

Yep! It was also on there when I got it. I think it looks cool clear, you can see the ends of what look like steel reinforcement bars poking through. Nice touch and might explain why the neck is still straight. I love string-guides, making them is nowhere near as fiddly as making a nut! I made...

Good catch!! Didn't notice the absence of those holes! First one I've seen like that, though there seem to be "variations " of many Jolanas. I wonder if it depended on the materials/paint they could get from batch to batch? Here's a "Basso IX Special", I've only ever seen this one...

My favorite Jolana!:bassist: I too wondered about that bridge, and also why someone went to the trouble of veneer-ing the headstock and converting to 4-in-a-line...hmmm. The tailpiece isn't original either, but that seems to be really common over there. Lots of parts exchanges and make-do fixes...

Totally understand (and agree)! I've passed on multiple cool-looking parts (not just tuners) because of "Brand Name" association. ("F"-branded wide-range bass humbuckers, "G"-style reflector knobs, etc.) Some parts are just so inherently associated with one brand, or even another...

Those look fantastic! Interestingly, in looking just now, that "Kluson" is German and is separate from the U.S. "Kluson". Their website says "There is an American company having filed the brand name Kluson for theirselves in the USA the same like we did here in Europe. What is resulting out of...

They honestly don't look bad on that hs either. I often get frustrated at the lack of "unique" bass tuners available new, but something I've wondered is how easy (or not) it would be to fabricate custom buttons for those kind of "y" style tuners. It would open up a lot of possibilities, and...

:bassist:Hooray! Safe and sound at last! That artwork looks amazing close up (love the blue accents) and the bass is playable too, which is always a plus! My (also recently acquired) Kolorbas has a slightly "relieved" neck as well, but nothing that affects it's play-ability (to me...
