    Yet another Markbass question

Thank you. Pretty much what I’ve feared. I’d love to keep it out of the waste stream…. but it might go that way. Thanks.

    Yet another Markbass question

My Markbass CMD121P quit mid-gig last night. It powers up fine, but nothing comes out, not even a hum when I ground my cord with my thumb. It quit suddenly, but after having rested overnight, it still won't emit a sound. Thoughts? Successful repairs? Many thanks, folks.

What do you eat the day of a big gig?

Seriously, I eat two bananas for the potassium. I’ve been plagued by hand cramps and the potassium boost seems to help. I often chase the bananas with a burger and fries, just cuz.

    NBD : Dingwall meets Ibanez

Whoa, morning bass porn! It's gorgeous! I'd love to hear it in its many tonal variations. Congrats!

Poll: Do you have a "beater" bass?

I have my “camping” bass, a well-gigged SR505, that I take when we camp or vacation. My bride brings her book to the beach, and I bring my SR with my Tascam MP-BT1 trainer, and all remains right with the world.

Is my friend a bad person?

Fiction or not, I enjoyed the humorous anecdote about your buddy Bob. If true, I pass no judgment; I wish him well. But it did serve as a reminder just how lucky I am (in innumerable ways) to call my bride of decades my wife. The worst she does is roll her eyes when she sees new gear. I was also...

    Thinking about stepping away....

I put playing live aside for 20 years while our kids were young, but I still made time every day to play, although often through headphones. I even had, and still have, a “camping” bass that I’d take on vacation with us. Still do. People ask me who my music influences are, and I have to say my...

    Struggles being a girl bassist

Be true to your sacred gifts, to your spirit and your destiny, Jemaira. To the dissenters and those who would have the temerity to cast any doubts at all your way, I wonder if they could hold a candle to Carol Kaye, Esperanza Spalding, Bridget Kearney, Kate Davis, Tina Weymouth, Marta Altesa...

Am I too old to get started in this?

I'm with bholder here. At 67 I'm still playing actively, as in practically every weekend. While I've been playing electric bass for 53 years (YIKES!), I've recently bought a fabulous CR5M 5 string electric upright and play it easily half the time on stage. I also just bought a 4 string double...

Best Build Quality in your opinion

Oh the basses I’ve known and loved. I’m one lucky guy. I’d have to say that, having been fortunate enough over the years to have owned an Alembic, a Sukop, a pre-Gibson Tobias, a Lakland, a Kinal, a few EBMM Stingrays, one 70s MIA Precision, 2 NYC Sadowsky and one Metro, a bouquet of Ibanezes (I...

    So...Who Enjoys A Bass Solo?

I'd say that it depends hugely on who's doing the soloing. Vic, hell yeah. Me, not so much. But I'm the guy who coined the riddle: What's the difference between an onion and a bass solo? No one ever cries when you cut a bass solo in half. A solo can be a shameless and artless display of...

Did you ever attempt to play Upright Bass -- how did it go?

I’ve been playing electric for (gulp) 50 years. (I must suck at math because I feel 28, but that’s a story for another time.) I recently joined an eclectic band (boy do I love these guys!) covering Lake Street Dive, Imelda May, Bangles, Fleetwood Mac, Soggy Bottom Boys, The Dead South, Steely...

A Craigslist selling adventure, otherwise known as do I owe this guy anything

To quote an overused phrase, caveat emptor. Q: why didn't he bring his gizmo with him to see if it fits? Yes, rhetorical question. IMHO, you owe him nothing beyond the lesson he should have learned.
