Joey is playing some serious foot pedal bass too.

Joey Defrancesco was one of the few musicians that I would describe as too good at his instrument. I've seen him several times in performance and his facility with the B3 was nothing short of amazing.

How has your taste in music changed with age?

I think it was Del Paxton that said " Bands come and go. You gotta keep on playin' no matter with who." None of the bands I liked in the past are still together and most of them started to peter out before they ultimately disbanded so I have been forced to continue to look for new music.

    Pickup for upright bass

Depending on your tone needs the Realist is a good pickup but I've also had good luck putting an SM57 in a sock and putting it inside the bass through the f hole.

    Best P pickup for flats

I'm also a fan of EMG Geezer pickups if you are really certain that a pick up swap is necessary. The Chromes are a little bright at first but in time they will settle in. Dunlop flats have a great feel and are brite sounding as well but they are $$$.

    Active '51 Style Precision?

The EMG BTC control pre amp has active bass and treble controls on one concentric pot. The whole thing is very small and may be small enough to fit in the control cavity of a 51 p bass.

Alternative to the Pure Vintage 63

I'm a big fan of the EMG Geezer pickups but lately I've been using a David Allen P pickup. It has a little something extra in the mids that I like. I doubt that anyone in the audience could tell the difference but I have gotten complements on my classic P bass sound.

Part exchanging several instruments for one good one.

I've had two Fender custom shop P basses and I currently have a Nash 57 P bass. Keep the Nash. Much better bass.

    P-Bass Pickup recommendation for Blues

I have tried many different P bass pickups. The differences between them are very subtle. The EMG Geezer pickup is very good and for my tastes the David Allen P bass pickup has a little extra something in the mids that I really like, although I'm not sure anyone in the audience could tell the...
