    My 12 string is a short scale, so it might be harder to find guitar strings long enough for a long scale 12 string bass.

    For the octave strings on my'84 Hamer 12, I use the A, D, G, B strings from sets of guitar strings, and tune them to E, A, D, G. There is a lot less tension on the strings when you tune them up to pitch, and it's a lot easier to play with those smaller gauge strings.

    I have a 1980 L1000 with a neck date 6 days after THIS bass. Still not sure if I want to keep it.
