    1961 and 1962 precision basses.

Excellent touch on both renditions! It is hard to adjust for the different strings, but I prefer the 62 with the Thomastiks. More character of the bass came through. The 61 sounds more generic to me.

Which bass to bring out of the country for a year

It's 1970, you have some decent money in your pocket....which large bass rig do you buy?

In the 70s, coming of age, I bought an Acoustic rig, I think it was the 320 with a 415 cabinet. Hey, if John Paul Jones and Jaco both used Acoustic, that was good enough for me. With the benefit of hindsight, the Ampeg SVT was, and is, superior.

Which bass guitar most defines the sound of the 60s?

I have not gone through all of the comments, but the Gibson EBO and Gibson EB3 were huge at the end of the decade. Think Jack Bruce in Cream and Bugsy in the original James Gang. Massive humbucker sound through Marshall stacks.

'62 Precision vs '72 Precision: can you hear the difference?

B, sounds a lot like my ‘64. Thanks for the great A/B!
