Sorry not to have followed up earlier. GC fixed the faulty pickup mount under Fender warranty. This bass sounds just fine now. I feel no need to upgrade the pickups. Thanks to all.

Yesterday I brought this bass into the closest Fender service center (my local GC). Hopefully this will be fixed under warranty although it doesn't appear that this is going to get done anytime soon. Thanks for all of the posts.

This morning I took off the guard. The screw won't hold in the pickup - it just spins. I have a strong feeling it was like this when I bought this bass last winter.

So I went to check that out today and discovered that one of the two screws holding the "upper" half of the neck pickup (the screw which lies under the A string) is completely loose and appears stripped. The position of the upper helf of the neck pu is a quite low. I guess I'll take this in to...

Thank you! I will look into that before I proceed. I was also considering having the bridge PU just pulled out (and putting a bridge cover over the cavity) -- I take it that if I did that then this would not be an issue?

I do like the Labellas; I also have them on an SX Andromeda J copy and they sound and feel good on that as well.
