I guess I could also buy a loaded P-bass body somewhere and put the jazz neck on that? I've considered this route, but honestly I just love the vibes of my jazz bass for this pop-punk band since its naturally relic'd and such and just feels good all round.

As someone who also played in a cover band and had a similar choice, I went with the 5 string HH sting ray. TBH, it’s not my favorite but it’s much more versatile for covers, you can emulate most tones well enough, sound guys always loved it, And I rarely needed to down tune with the 5 string.

Tough call. 5 string is probably the better choice long term to help you learn and become more fluent with the instrument. Tuning down to BEAD would require some know how with a proper set up, but assuming you can sort that out and you really don’t want to play anything other than that...

I think the neck pickup solod on a jazz bass does a decent job of replicating the P bass sound in some genres, but I play some pop punk with a pick and the jazz neck pickup just can’t emulate that same grindy mid range that I want when playing that style.
