the solution is then pushing it to sonic destruction hehe... i don't really consider it a problem... but sure.. it's not a bedroom practice amp (it also produces lot of heat and can surely warm a room in an hour)

it was clean. the svt-ii doesn't have a preamp gain knob, so it only distorts when its pushed heavily (which i always do anyway, but not in the recording, for the sake of my neighbours).

yup... it's recorded with a beta52 mic right in the center of the speaker of a SWR 410 workingman cabinet, powered by a Ampeg SVT-II head.

thanks!. yes.. it's nice that it retains the tone. that's one of the reaons i don't enjoy the sansamp that much, cause every bass sound somewhat the same thru it... which can be an advantage in the studio when the bass player doesn't have the right equipment, and the sansamp gives "instant"...

the ibanez tube screamer ts9 (and i guess all of its models) sounds quite nice on bass... but if you turn it on and off during songs, you may have to adjust the low EQ. nice subtle overdrive anyway.

hehe.. thanks for the nice comments! anyway... i disagree on that... a nice sound and tone are always inspiring for playing better, and i'm sure that note selection is heavily influenced by sound.

my opinion, as the Sansamp is in itself an ampeg emulator, and because it processes the sound a lot, and also as Ampeg heads and amps changes the sound a lot too, i feel, like i feel with the mxr m80, that the sound gets boomy and over-effected, for my taste. i prefer a dedicated distortioon or...
