    Converting 240v fender Deluxe 85 to 120v

Good luck then! Remember that the unused winding/tap still carries a high voltage, so the loose ends must be insulated.

    Converting 240v fender Deluxe 85 to 120v

Then it can be converted. Any audio/tv-technician etc. should be able to do it in a few minutes (they won't need the schematic). I'ts a little hard to describe further as I've never seen this particular amp.

    Converting 240v fender Deluxe 85 to 120v

How many leads are there on the mains side of the transformer?

Double Bass what to expect after major work....

Let's hope better and louder! I had almost the same things done to my bass (except they only refitted the bass bar), and it felt like it took a month or so until it was fully stable... But, perhaps this also has to do with the fact that with a new bridge etc. the bass won't feel exactly like...

Double Bass To those who don't care for the sound of AI amps - tell us why.

I just received an answer from AI. They say "That is the measured response of the amp from instrument input to speaker output with all tone controls set to flat (detent position) and with the filter disabled."

Double Bass To those who don't care for the sound of AI amps - tell us why.

Science... I quoted a manual. Note that I never said that people don't perceive differences - they obviously do - but my point is that it doesn't likely have anything to do with some inner voicing or such of the amplifier itself, but rather how we can use them to shape the sound we like. When...

Double Bass To those who don't care for the sound of AI amps - tell us why.

Definitely not, but I may have a slightly better understanding of how amplifiers work (which KJung seems to have, too). If I have been offensive to KJung in any way I apologize. But I cannot see how expressing a notion different from others can be offensive in itself. I should have added...

Double Bass To those who don't care for the sound of AI amps - tell us why.

I am pretty sure it is the overall response (instrument input to speaker output, but I will write AI and ask. I hope they'll answer... I could borrow a head, but I don't have access to the necessary equipment to perform such measurements myself. Well, then I already consider myself a winner...

Double Bass To those who don't care for the sound of AI amps - tell us why.

I'll take that as a compliment, compared to some of the previous posts :-) Then we only disagree on the question whether preamps are voiced or not. In my experience, in most modern quality amps they are not - at least not in a way you cannot attribute to potentiometer tolerances etc. Take...

    Double Bass Hard Question #2.

Miles Davis studied bebop in the 1940:s while it was happening, and then he moved on quickly. He didn't try to play like they did in the 1880:s. The same has certainly happened many times after that - the free improvisors of the 1960:s were disscussing a lot, listening to each other a lot, and...

    Double Bass an academic problem

You can make an extension for your vacuum cleaner by taking a two or three sheets of ordinary printer paper or similar, rolling them and inserting one roll into another (some adhesive tape will help). There is no need to make any rigid connection to the vacuum cleaner hose, it is sufficient...

    Double Bass Jazz Audition Dilema

I agree with all the above. I don't know how this kind of audition is organised, but I suppose you will play with (say) a piano player and a drummer, and that there is no time to rehearse? If so, I would choose tunes that would work under this rather strange situation. Body and Soul would be...

Double Bass really 'hearing' walking bass lines

I have found it very useful to practise playing things that I definitely can hear and sing - childrens songs, chorals, melodies i know from listening to records or radio, etc. After all, I can sing Twinkle, twinkle in any key - why, then, shouldn't I be able to play it in any key? When I...

Double Bass How long between bridge and tailpiece?

What happens when using amplification is that there is too much of the spring reverb thing. Om the other hand, when playing without amplification it adds ... something! This isn't anything of a problem (and, I agree, probably the only one noticing any difference when playing with other...

    Double Bass warped bridge

I heard Swedish bassist Anders Jormin talk about this a while ago. He suggested to let the bridge soak in water (with some object on top of it so it doesn't float) for a few days, then clamp it to a straight surface until it is dry (that would take a week or so, I guess). According to him the...
