Converting 240v fender Deluxe 85 to 120v

Possible? It looks like it. I don't have a schematic, or for that matter, a meter at the moment, but I took a couple of pix for your perusal.

there is a mini fuse in a fuseholder inside of a larger fuseholder. There is also a weird jumper in the foreground of the 2nd shot. A brown wire goes in one side and is crewed down. A brown w/black stripe wire goes in the other and is screwed down to connect them together. I'm thinking they used the same parts and just used a different power cord. It's just a matter of comparing to a US one. Or, I need to order the schematic from Fender..........

Chances are pretty good that the amp can be converted from 240 to 120, but you will definitely need a schematic, if not a technician. Looking at a few other contemporary Fender amps, the "export" versions can be reconfigured, but some of the "domestic" amps are 120 only.

Also note, the jumper thingy is simply a single station from a common type of terminal block. There might have been something else in there at some point. Some of the schematics show a thermal fuse.

Thanks for the info, it's been about twenty years since I worked on component level stuff. I had a part time job back in the day, fixing the SS stuff for a fellow who was real good with tube stuff...

The vast majority of convertible supply amps use a dual primary power transformer. Not too hard to figure out.

How many leads are there on the mains side of the transformer?

5 in 3 out. There are three wires on the left; black, white, and black w/yellow stripe, and the two on the right are black w/green stripe and black w/red stripe. There are three red output wires on the other side of the transformer.

Then it can be converted. Any audio/tv-technician etc. should be able to do it in a few minutes (they won't need the schematic). I'ts a little hard to describe further as I've never seen this particular amp.

I think I got it. Using the Deluxe 90 schematic found online, I unhooked the three extra wires, and hooked the black w/red stripe to P7 and the black w/green stripe to P8. Should work fine. I just need a 4A 125v fuse now instead of that puny little mini 1.25A 250v that is in there now!

Good luck then! Remember that the unused winding/tap still carries a high voltage, so the loose ends must be insulated.

There should be no spare wires. A dual primary Tx will use the primary windings in series for 240V and parallel for 120V.

Not sure what that would look like. The 2nd winding has a center tap, and I would have to double up on the pins at 8 and 7 to go par?

Let's see if I can make sense of this. My primary connections to the line are P8 and P7 (P6 is shorted to P7).

There are three "jumpers" shown to the left, they say P9,10,and 11 are shorted. Also P13,14,15 are shorted. They show P12 as a N/C. Then from the top, bl/rd(P13), bl/grn(P9), bl/yl(P10), white(P12), black)(8). The first two are a winding and the last three the other winding w/white being a "center" tap.

join the Black+Red and the Black+Yellow together and the Black+Green and the Black together Secure and insulate the end of the White wire.

Thanks! That should be easy enough. I already have P6 for the Bl/Yl so I just need to tie the black and black/green............I forgot to stop and get a fuse. I'm gonna look in the garage before heading to RS! It's raining in SoCal!!!!!
