Check out the TC Electronics BG250. There are a lot of threads on TB about it already so I won't go too in depth about it. I play through one and have nothing but good things to say about it. For the price I don't think you can beat it.

I play electric in a bluegrass band... p-bass de-fretted with tapewound strings. Keep the bass tone deep and bump away pizzacato style! Good luck!

Glad to hear the positive feedback for Chromes... I've never used them but ordered a set to put on an acoustic bass I'm de-fretting. Looking forward to hearing how the final product sounds.
