Essex Bass Club - Part 13

$62 for a neck isn't bad ... except when you can get the entire bass for $150 or so. Especially when the new necks are pretty decent and there's no tonal difference.

Essex Bass Club - Part 13

There isn't a bass in the SX/Rondo lineup that is a better value than the Squier/Fender VM Jaguars The VM Series costs 3x what an SX does, and from what I've seen locally it is the lowest amount that a playable Squier can be had for. I personally would not buy any Squier less than the...

Essex Bass Club - Part 13

Just picked up a Douglas TL. In general, very nice. Great Neck, frets are flawless. I need to replace the strings and do a setup on it. Neck pickup is solid, bridge pickup is a little on the weak side - may eventually replace it if I feel like tinkering. I'll probably replace the nut with a Tusq...

Know this is a Bass forum, but how is that Furian? Been looking at one of those myself.

GF prices appear to be +$50 for the equivalent and -proven- SX Bass. Would still like to hear someone's review of a GF Bass.

Essex Bass Club - Part 12

I've been waiting for over a year for more selection in P's that were to come early in 2001. I don't see any upgrades on that Ash that normally come in that price range (upgraded tuners, bridge) outside of the ashtray and blocked/bound neck - the $50 difference is aesthetics only. BK with...

Is that picture correct? Looks like standard sunburst to me, can't recall ever seeing a tobacco burst with red.

Essex Bass Club - Part 12

I too have been patiently waiting since November of last year for the appearance of a few new Bass offerings from Rondo. If I don't see anything turn up soon, I may need to consider something with 6 thinner strings to satisfy my gas !

Yeah, Redwook ... real exotic stuff :)

Essex Bass Club - Part 12

I stripped mine as it was a maple neck and I couldn't deal with it looking like some sort of cheap "orangewood". My next SX will be a redwook neck and I agree that it's not worth the trouble.

Notice that the higher level offerings on the site are AXL. Being that I was completely unimpressed with the AXL's I've played, not likely I'd be happy with their little sisters either. Still be interested to hear a review from an owner of the "Split Pickup Bass".

    Yorkville/Traynor Club?! Part 2

Buy it. If you aren't sure, rent it and try it out. That price is close to what the DB200T I bought went for and the 300 is a whole lot more amp.

    Yorkville/Traynor Club?! Part 2

The DB300 is a real nice combo. My local L&M has loads of them in their rental dept and I had one as a loaner while my DB200 was on it's way. The Peavey and Fender Rumble aren't in the same class price or performance wise. DB300 is about 2x the others mentioned .. if you can get the DB in the...
