DIY Effect Makers (club?)

I did find a good thread on the topic on ILF (sometimes TB doesn't notify me of replies).

I<3Fuzz - View topic - how i drill hole?

Thanks though homies,...purty sure I'mma head out and pick up a step bit and a spring loaded center punch. I can get stuff from Grainger since Huff has an account there (I'll shop around though). I need some precision screw drivers as well.

The Harbor Freight step bit and center punch are fine and probably the cheapest option. (Their screw drivers are pretty variable though, I wouldn't recommend buying a set online).

We have two HF stores here in Spookaloo,...so I went out and pick up the Step Bit and Center Punch. Then headed to Swear and Send-Back (Sears) and picked up a precision flathead. I normally don't like sets cause you wind up paying more and almost always get a few things you don't need or will never use (like with Kitchen Knives or Pots and Pans sets).

I also picked up a few deep sockets for my 1/4" ratchet. Seems like the most commonly used on the Jack/Pot/3pdt are 10mm, 13mm, 14mm. Needed the deeper sockets to accommodate shafts and switches. I was about to pick a metric combination wrench set (which I would actually use) but 3 sockets was cheaper. I forgot I already had a 10mil so I'mma take it back and try to find some measuring tools I need.

Anyway,...here is a mock up of my current project, which is a Beavis Board.

I feel like the holes are a little off center on the enclosure. I didn't drill pilot holes,...just center punched only. Also had to use insufficient measuring tools. Lesson learned. Still got a few more holes to drill so I can mount and wire the terminal strip.

Everything else will be mounted to a board (this is just my dinner table).

.

It looks pretty good from here.

If you can't find the measuring tools you need locally, you might try Little Machine Shop. They're more for the small-scale machinist but some of their stuff may be useful to you.

Thanks for the tip. For some reason I wanted a small T-Square as opposed to a a combo square. I found one for cheap at an art supply store. I may go back out and pick up a small combo square as well (maybe the 45 degree will actually come in handy now that I think about it).

Aside from a Drill Press, a powder coating and a silk screen setup I think I'm set on tools. I even got a free shop space lined up so I can get off the dinning room table. :D

Drill press, check. Powder coat rig, check (and just cool). Silk screen? Nah, unless you're doing a lot of the same pedal I wouldn't worry about it.

Almost there,...just gotta get everything mounted up.

Before I figured out how to power the board and get a signal through the engaged bypass I made a quickee mouth-breathing iPod with unrehearsed BSing.

I'm getting a signal to my amp with the breakout box engaged and disengaged,...Hooray for me!!! Just gotta order up some components and start tinkering!!!!
