DIY Effect Makers (club?)

I haven't really studied your photo all too closely (on my phone, quality is so-so :p) but because it is such a simple design I would bet you really need to solder them in to get proper functionality. There will be someone soon with better, more helpful info I'm sure - but that's what I would do!

Heyy, i'm also really interested in building some effects myself, i have really basic knowledge of electronics and know how to solder. But never builded effects or things like it :p Never got so far xD But i have time know and really leek forward to building sumthing, so any of you has some simple schematics for me to start with? consider me a complete beginner :D

You might want to read through Beavis Audio, and maybe make a Beavis Board.

Have any of you, or know anyone who has, rehoused an Ashdown effect pedal (like the Hyperdrive) in a smaller enclosure without the VU meter?

did a quick search, here and google, didn't find anything...

Yeah, removing the VU meter totally...

I should get the Hyperdrive in two days, when I do, I'll post a pic, board and housing... Just curious if anyone has done it already... I know I'll give it a try if I like the pedal as much as I think I will...

I've already schematized a rehousing for the Octamizer and the footswitch for the Mesa M9, but due to the two pedal boards' designs, it really wouldn't work without a 'two u-shaped piece' housing, like the original boxes. I was concerned the Hyperdrive would be the same thing... I'll find out Friday...

Thanks ;)

I would not jumper across the pads, just leave them open circuit.

Or stick a 3k9 resistor across them. (It might not matter, but if you find that removing the meter affects the pedal the nominal impedance of a VU meter is 3900 ohms.)

Cool! Thanks for the advice guys. Aside from the whole rehousing, what to do with the meter leads was a concern. I'll look into the resistor when I order (if I go through with it) the drilled box.

I'd like to join the club.
My first completed build:
Hex Fuzz

GGG russian muff kit with additonal parts from RadioShack and PedalPartsPlus. Has an EQ stack, 4001 diodes, and a few value changes inspired by Earthbound Audio Supercollider, the doomest muff of them all.

Graphics inspired by the video game Hexen, which was a modded version of the DOOM game engine.

Okay dokay....

I made a new thread for the JL Hyperdrive rehousing so as not to totally take over a whole page here.

Let me know if any of you come up with an elegant solution... I'm stumped. I don't think its possible to go smaller, even without the VU meter (which is next to worthless for this pedal by the way). I'll post my impressions of the pedal later, after I can mess with it longer, and with other effects, blends, etc...

Thanks for the encouragement everyone!
